Sky Sports reporter Michael Bridge has questioned why Tottenham loaned Bryan Gil to Valencia rather than a Premier League club.

Gil has struggled to earn playing time since joining Spurs from Sevilla in the summer. The 20-year-old has made a few appearances on the Premier League bench under Antonio Conte but appeared to be quite far down the Italian’s pecking order.

The youngster hopes to get some regular playing time under his belt at the Mestalla in the second half of the season to give himself a shot at making Spain’s squad for the World Cup in Qatar.

According to The Evening Standard, Spurs expect Gil to return to north London this summer and hope the winger has a future at the club.

However, Bridge questioned why Tottenham didn’t loan the winger out to a Premier League club if that was the case.

Asked about Gil’s move to Valencia, the journalist told GiveMeSport: “What’s the point? The thing is, we know he can play well against Eibar and Cadiz, we want to see him in the Premier League.

“And now if you tell me that no Premier League club have dreamed him up for a one-season loan, we have problems because that tells me he’s not good enough for this league. “

Boosts web opinion

One thing to consider is that Tottenham would have liked to be completely sure that Gil would play regularly during his loan spell. It might not have happened at another Premier League club. Thus, the move to Valencia makes sense for all parties involved.
