Last summer, Tottenham Hotspur expressed interest in Villarreal defender Pau Torress; however, the Spain international has decided to stay with The Yellow Submarine, and with their run in the UEFA Champions League, it looks like he made the right choice.
Nevertheless, this summer the 25-year-old will again have suitors and among them Manchester United, but the Red Devils are on their own. According to The Razonthe north London club are once again backtracking on their interest in Torres as they still need another centre-back.
As for the cost, the Spanish outlet say that Villarreal will be open to eavesdropping offers if a proposal comes close to the €60m which is the termination clause in their contract.
Meanwhile, another possible centre-back option that Tottenham could pursue is to reunite Chelsea defender Antonio Rudiger with his former manager Antonio Conte.
The Italian tactician brought the 29-year-old to Stamford Bridge, and Spurs insider John Wenham was skeptical of initial reports but now sees it as a realistic option.
“Rudiger’s stuff won’t go away despite me repeatedly shutting him out,” Wenham said Football Insider. “Maybe we’re trying, don’t get me wrong. He’s a left centre-back, that’s what we’re looking for.
“He comes into our team; in fact, he’s been the Premier League’s best defender this season. I never saw him leave Chelsea to join us. I’d be happy to eat a humble pie about it. It would be a massive statement if the club could have him and integrate him into the squad. I really hope that will happen.
