Sadio Mane has ‘clarified’ that he wants to join Bayern Munich from Liverpool this summer, according to Sky Germany journalist Florian Plettenberg.
The Lowdown: Mane on the Move
The Senegalese sensation enjoyed a legendary six years at Anfield, winning everything there is to win and being hailed as a ‘machine’ by Jurgen Klopp.
In a sad turn of events, however, Mane looks all but certain to be on the move this summer as he seeks a new challenge before his prime years are over.
With Liverpool reportedly close to signing Darwin Nunez from Benfica, it only increases the chances of the 30-year-old moving on to new pastures.
The latest: Plettenberg provides an update
Take from TwitterPlettenberg shared an ‘update’ – Mane sees his future at Bayern and Bayern alone:
“Update Mane: Bayern spoke to him and he had a positive phone call with Nagelsmann. Mané clarified that he wanted to join FCBayern! Bayern were impressed that Mané had no airs and graces. He made it clear that he would do his best in every position.
The verdict: anything but a done deal
It seems like a matter of time now, with Mane’s decision made and Bayern clearly seeing the striker as one of their main summer transfer targets.
Although losing the African superstar is a blow in many ways, it could be argued that he is now a bit past his prime and that Liverpool are selling a good time, receiving high fees for his services after already getting his best years. .
The hope is that Nunez comes along and immediately fills the mane-shaped void, proving to be a worthy successor for him, not to mention being eight years his junior.
