Transfer expert Dean Jones has claimed Tottenham Hotspur could wait until January to sign another centre-back.
Spurs have strengthened their backline this summer with the addition of Clement Lenglet, who joined the club on a season-long loan from Barcelona.
The Frenchman is expected to compete with Eric Dier and Ben Davies for the central sweeper and left central defender roles respectively (Football.London).
However, reports over the past few weeks have indicated that Antonio Conte is keen to sign another centre-back this summer, with the likes of Japhet Tanganga and Joe Rodon potentially set to leave the club (talkSPORT).
Jones has now explained that Spurs are not prioritizing a centre-back at the moment and could only sign one if a good market option presents itself.
The reporter suggested the North London club could reassess the situation in the January transfer window if they feel they are lacking in numbers at the back.
Asked about Tottenham’s pursuit of a centre-back, Jones told GiveMeSport: “I think that situation is on hold at the moment unless a great situation comes up on their doorstep.
“I think that’s one they could look at in January after the World Cup. If they feel like the first half of the season hasn’t gone their way or it’s too short, I think they might be looking to get another one.

Even if Tanganga and Rodon both leave, that would leave Conte with five options for the three centre-back positions in Romero, Sanchez, Dier, Lenglet and Davies.
So I can understand why another centre-back is not a priority for Spurs. However, the situation could well change should the club receive a suitable offer for Sanchez over the next few weeks.
