Speaking on the transfer window podcast, Duncan Castles made a statement about Antonio Conte and Dele Alli.
The midfielder left Tottenham on transfer deadline day, and it looks like he left at the perfect time.
Indeed, according to Castles, before Alli was sold, Conte made the decision to stop using Alli, thus forcing him out of the club.
What was said?
Castles claims that Conte never planned to use Alli again until it was eventually sold.
“They let all these players go on loan, and they also let Dele Alli join Everton on a first free transfer with payments that can be triggered. Getting rid of Alli was a necessary decision, I’m told Antonio Conte wouldn’t have used him again. He wanted it as a top priority, and when you look at Pochettino, Mourinho, Nuno and Conte having issues with Dele Alli, there’s a common denominator,” Castles said.
Fallen so far
It shows how badly Dele Alli has fallen in recent years.
Tottenham aren’t exactly blessed with the most talented squad in the world, but Conte still decided he had absolutely no use for Alli.
Luckily for the England international, Everton came for him at the end of the transfer window, but had they not done so, he would have faced six months of rotting in the reserves.
We can only hope Alli can return to play his best football under Frank Lampard at Everton.
