Speaking on YouTube channel Arsenal Analyzed, CBS reporter Ben Jacobs discussed the Gunners’ interest in Leroy Sane.
Arsenal have been linked with Sane lately, but according to Jacobs, their interest in the German is historically quite active.
Indeed, Jacobs says Sane was a player Arsenal looked at before their failed transfer to Raphinha, and while they may review that transfer, it will be difficult.
What was said?
Jacobs shared what he knows about Sane.
“To give you the full context, Sane’s interest came before Raphinha. It’s really important because it tells you he’s a name on their list in that position and it shows you that Arsenal are exploring that particular position. They could see him again during the window, but the reality is that Sane is very hard to get, there has been interest from Real Madrid, but Bayern’s position is that they would ideally keep the player,” Jacobs said.
“With Sane there would also be a price issue, Bayern’s position, as I understand it, is that they don’t want to sell him and if they listened to offers it would be above what they paid for him, which was £55m from Manchester City, so you’re looking at a significant transfer fee from a club that doesn’t want to sell.
Bayern Munich don’t want to sell Leroy Sane, and while a move isn’t impossible, a move to Arsenal is extremely unlikely.
With all due respect to the Gunners, they cannot offer Champions League football and a move to the Emirates for the 26-year-old would be a step backwards.
Yes, he’s worked with Mikel Arteta before, so that might be tempting, but if Real Madrid are keen, they’ll surely find a more palatable move to a club ready to challenge for top honors as soon as possible.
Sane would be a great signing for Arsenal, but unfortunately that’s highly unlikely.
