Journalist Dean Jones expects Chelsea to beat Tottenham to sign RB Leipzig centre-back Josko Gvardiol.

Tottenham (Football.London) and Chelsea (fabrice romano) were credited with an interest in Gvardiol during the summer transfer window but the defender ended up staying at RB Leipzig and even signing a contract extension with the Bundesliga club.

Calciomercato.it reported last month that despite Chelsea and Spurs failing to sign the Croatian in the summer, the two London clubs are still monitoring the centre-back ahead of the January transfer window.

However, journalist Simon Phillips said GiveMeSport a few weeks ago, Graham Potter’s men were keen to complete a double deal for Gvardiol and Christopher Nkunku and suggested the 20-year-old defender was ready to join Chelsea.

Jones now claims he has heard the Leipzig star is unlikely to choose Spurs over Chelsea, even if the north London club were interested in his services.

Asked about Tottenham pursuing Gvardiol, he told GiveMeSport: “They could think about it, but I’m told he’s unlikely to choose Spurs over Chelsea, even though they’ve started to see it. a possibility.”

Boosts web opinion

Despite reports to the contrary this summer, I suspect Bastoni remains Tottenham’s number one target over Gvardiol, given Conte has worked closely with the Italian in the past. I don’t see Spurs getting involved in a bidding war with Chelsea for the Leipzig star.
