Aston Villa are ‘100 per cent’ certain they will seek to complete a deal for Brighton & Hove Albion midfielder Yves Bissouma when the transfer window reopens this summer, according to journalist Pete O’Rourke.
Steven Gerrard – who was appointed as the Midlands club’s head coach in November – reshaped his squad by signing Philippe Coutinho, Lucas Digne, Robin Olsen and Calum Chambers last month but was unable to welcome Bissouma at Villa Park.
What is the latest news about Bissouma?
Athletic have revealed Aston Villa are set to push to sign Bissouma after Gerrard admitted the club were frustrated in their bid to land the 25-year-old from Brighton in the January transfer window.
Bissouma’s current employers rejected Villa’s offer, which the report said was in the region of £35million and fell short of the Seagulls’ valuation.
Brighton would only have been willing to sell the defensive midfielder if a bid worth £50m had been made.
Had Villa been successful with their initial bid, Bissouma would have become the most expensive signing in club history.
However, Villa are unlikely to have to part with that sum this summer as, for a new contract to be completed, Bissouma will have entered the final 12 months of his £29,000-a-week deal at the Amex Stadium.
That still doesn’t necessarily mean it will be easy to secure Bissouma’s services this summer, as Manchester United, Manchester City, Liverpool, Chelsea, Arsenal and Tottenham Hotspur have also been keen to seal his transfer.

What did Pete O’Rourke say about Bissouma?
O’Rourke is certain Villa will rekindle their interest in Bissouma when the transfer window reopens in early July.
The reporter understands Villa and Brighton were unable to reach a fee agreement last month, but believes that will not deter the Midlands club from their pursuit.
Asked if he expected Villa to test Brighton’s resolve this summer, O’Rourke told GIVEMESPORT: “Yes, 100%. He will be on Villa’s radar again this summer.
“They tried to get him in January but couldn’t get a deal with Brighton.”
Why is Bissouma interested in Villa?
Bissouma has a wealth of Premier League experience and reached the milestone of 100 appearances in the competition last month.
The 17-cap Mali international, who represented his country at the recent Africa Cup of Nations, has also shown he is capable of producing the goods in the final third of the pitch, despite being mainly a defensive-minded midfielder, scoring 13 goals. throughout his club career.
He could prove to be a replacement for Douglas Luiz, who was the subject of three offers in January and entered the final 17 months of his £52,000-a-week deal at Villa Park.
