Journalist Simon Phillips has claimed that Tottenham target Josko Gvardiol is rumored to be open to a transfer to Chelsea.
Tottenham (Football.London) and Chelsea (fabrice romano) were credited with an interest in Gvardiol during the summer transfer window but the defender ended up staying at RB Leipzig and even signing a contract extension with the Bundesliga club.
Calciomercato.it reported last month that despite Chelsea and Spurs failing to sign the Croatian in the summer, the two London clubs continue to monitor the centre-back.
The Telegraph revealed a week ago that there was a £40million release clause in the contract the 20-year-old signed with Leipzig in the summer.
The report claimed that Chelsea are keen on signing the centre-back and could end up activating his release clause in January.
Phillips has now backed up that claim, explaining the Blues could do a double deal for Gvardiol and Christopher Nkunku, suggesting the former is set to join Graham Potter’s side.
The journalist told GiveMeSport: “Chelsea want to sign Gvardiol next summer with Nkunku, they are currently talking about the two players and Gvardiol are open to the decision.”
Boosts web opinion
Given Lenglet is on loan until the end of the season, I don’t expect Spurs to be in the market for a left-back centre-back in January.
However, that said, £40m is arguably a bargain for a player of Gvaridol’s potential, and so the north London club could be tempted to explore a deal for the Croatian.
