Liverpool reached an agreement to sell Sadio Mane to Bayern Munich earlier this summer.
The 30-year-old winger joined the Reds in 2016 and has been instrumental in helping Jurgen Klopp’s side to many successes since then.
Liverpool won the Champions League – and reached two other finals – the Premier League, FA Cup and a League Cup while the Senegal international was a mainstay in Klopp’s XI.
Not only was he popular within the team, but the club as a whole and a tweet from a reporter in Germany illustrated his affection for the Anfield outfit.
According to Christian Falk, who exclusively covers Bayern for Bild, Mane sent chocolate, a personalized note and a “portrait” of himself to everyone at Liverpool, regardless of their role.
Here is what Falk tweeted:
Sadio Mane at Bayern Munich
It’s clear that Liverpool remain very close to Mane’s heart, also revealed by Falk earlier in July.
However, it was time for a change.
His role on the left side of the attack had been taken by Luis Diaz, who joined in January, and an £85million deal to sign Darwin Nunez meant Mane was not going to play in the middle either.
Mane has been doing well in Germany so far, but the Reds have stuttered a bit, losing two points at Fulham last week in their Premier League opener.
Missing the player on the pitch is unavoidable to some extent this season.
Hopefully it doesn’t cost them anything for Liverpool.
