Journalist Dean Jones has claimed that Tottenham will be able to secure Ajax midfielder Mohammed Kudus for a much lower fee than James Maddison this summer.
Reports in recent weeks have indicated that Spurs are on the hunt for a creative midfielder (Evening Standard) with Maddison believed to be one of the options on Antonio Conte’s radar (GiveMeSport).
The Leicester star is also believed to be the subject of strong interest from Newcastle United this summer (Luke Edwards).
Meanwhile, GhanaWeb reported last week that Spurs also hold an interest in Ajax starlet Mohammed Kudus.
The report claims that Conte’s men are ‘confident’ they can complete a deal for the 22-year-old next summer if they don’t sign him during this transfer window.
This was followed by a subsequent report by Ghanafootballwho claimed Spurs scouts were present during Ajax’s game against Fortuna Sittard on Saturday to watch Kudus in action.
It has been suggested that the North London club are impressed with the youngster and are preparing an offer for him.
Jones thinks the Ajax star would be a much more economical option than Maddison.
Asked about Tottenham’s rumored interest in Kudus, the reporter told GiveMeSport: “I believe that’s potentially a position they’re looking to add even more depth to.
“And the signs are, I think, that he might actually be available at a much better price than you’d get with someone like James Maddison, so we’ll have to watch that space.”
Boosts web opinion
Tottenham’s interest in Kudus has only been reported by Ghanaian publications. None of the Dutch or English publications picked up these reports.
This suggests that the information only comes from those around the player, which makes me skeptical about the seriousness of Spurs’ interest in the 22-year-old.
