Production Journalist, Dundee | Media professions

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a production reporter to join the STV News team in Dundee.

You will work closely with producers, assistant producers and multimedia journalists to help shape a program for STV News that is compelling, engaging and distinct.

From interviews with key voices, footage of incredible moments, and clear and effective live news reporting, this role focuses on developing and researching content that truly connects with audiences and reflects the main issues facing Scotland.

The successful candidate will support our broadcast program and flagship newsletters and contribute to the release of STV News on our digital publishing and social media channels.

The Production Reporter will deliver content that meets the highest editorial and production standards and enhances the reputation of STV News.

The role:

  • Provide creative editorial input into the running order of our news programs and bulletins
  • Generate and develop ideas for stories, case studies and inventive treatments that enhance STV News’ reputation and engage our audience
  • Research and gather material to support stories using relevant sources of information
  • Enhance our locally produced content with off-log information gathering
  • Work on newsgathering shifts to provide both general news and specialist reports
  • Prepare scripts and packages for bulletins that adhere to broadcasting regulations and legal standards
  • Contribute to the development of STV News’ digital presence and ensure cross-platform distribution of content
  • Edit and produce high profile video packages for broadcast and digital platforms
  • Conduct live and recorded interviews as needed
  • Assist in all other aspects of the work of the company as reasonably required

Skills and experience:

  • Relevant experience working in a newsroom or in a journalism role, preferably in a broadcast environment
  • In-depth knowledge of Scottish news and current affairs
  • Fluent understanding of digital platforms, especially social media
  • Experience producing content for broadcast and digital platforms
  • A keen sense of current affairs and a passion for developing original reporting and agenda journalism
  • Confidence and experience working on major stories under tight deadlines
  • Strong technical skills, including video editing at a high level
  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills, and an appreciation of the importance of teamwork in a newsroom environment
  • Initiative, passion and drive to tell stories that touch audiences
  • A clean and complete driver’s license is desirable
