An exciting opportunity has arisen for a production journalist to join the Edinburgh team on a nine month fixed term contract. The Production Reporter will be responsible for covering news events nationwide and delivering content to the highest editorial and production standards for STV News, associated bulletins and digital platforms. You will be responsible for the production of STV news bulletins across all STV platforms, where applicable, and the presentation of material for our hourly bulletins and noon hour news, as well as late bulletins.

The Production Reporter will also be assigned to the Digital Desk for agreed shifts during each rotation period.

The role:

  • Provide creative editorial input to the broadcast order of bulletins.
  • Produce articles and other content to agreed standards for digital publishing.
  • Generate story/report ideas and follow leads from a variety of sources.
  • Research, gather evidence and information to support stories using relevant news sources.
  • Providing non-newspaper video newsgathering to continue our focus on locally produced news coverage
  • Provides enhanced video capture to record and edit packages for broadcast and digital platforms.
  • Operate on specifically scheduled news gatherings to produce general news stories and specialized reports.
  • Preparing scripts for packages and bulletins that comply with legal guidelines
  • Presenting news in a professional and unbiased manner.
  • Conduct live and recorded interviews.
  • Break and manage top news, find exclusives and develop original reporting to deliver agenda-setting journalism.
  • Provide neat package reports using editing software.
  • Assist in all other aspects of the work of the company as reasonably required.

Skills and experience:

  • Related relevant journalism experience acquired in a broadcast environment.
  • A detailed knowledge of Scottish current affairs and the law as it relates to Scotland.
  • Experience producing content for multiple platforms.
  • A developed news savvy, with the ability to handle major news stories, develop original reporting and overall deliver agenda-setting journalism.
  • Demonstrable experience working in a breaking news environment.
  • An original approach to journalism with the confidence to develop new and innovative ways of covering the news.
  • Able to develop an online presence through our digital platforms and the use of social media.
  • Ability to meet tight deadlines and remain calm, resilient and adaptable in a dynamic live news environment.
  • Strong communication, interpersonal and teamwork skills; ability to liaise effectively with colleagues, internal and external clients at all levels.
  • Self-motivated approach and use of own initiative to overcome challenges.
  • A full UK driving license is essential
