‘Nonsense’ – Sportswriter quits talking about Liverpool for Matheus Nunes

James Pearce has dismissed rumors that Liverpool are considering making a bid for Sporting CP midfielder Matheus Nunes.

Over the past few days, many outlets have suggested the Reds could act. However, that seems less likely now.

Writing on Twitter at Noon, Pearce said: “Said talking about LFC’s bid for Sporting’s Matheus Nunes is nonsense.” Club position unchanged regarding summer activities. There are no plans to strengthen the midfield further in this window.

If the former Liverpool reporter Echo is correct here, it would symbolize that the club are finished in this transfer market and are content with their current options for the new campaign.

Further reports from Portugal have suggested a deal could be on the cards, with Nunes keen to move to Anfield.

Sporting want €45m + an additional €5m for the Portugal international and they’re not ready to negotiate that price. Seems like a reasonable amount for a player of Nunes’ talent.

The 23-year-old joined the club in 2019 from Estoril. He made 99 appearances and scored 7 goals.

Pep Guardiola commented on Nunes earlier in the year and called him ‘one of the best players, I would say actually, in world football’.
