The Truth: Free Agent

After signing a short-term contract with Premier League club Brentford in January, the 30-year-old will soon be a free agent, with his contract expiring at the end of this month.

A host of high-flying suitors have been named as competitors in the race to secure the Dane’s signature, the most rumored of which have been Tottenham and Manchester United, with an extension of his stay with Brentford also a realistic possibility.

Transfer insider Dean Jones previously indicated that the former Inter Milan player preferred to stay in London, but that could always change with the lure of many Northern giants.

The Last: Talbot’s Claim to Eriksen

Talbotwho writes for publications such as The Times, The Mirror and The Guardian, has shared the latest on Eriksen’s upcoming career move, revealing the midfielder has spoken to Newcastle about a possible transfer this summer.

Speaking to GiveMeSport, the reporter claimed: “They met. I was told they met on Monday – some preliminary talks – but I think he kind of met at different clubs, to be honest, so that doesn’t really count for much. He kind of spoke to a number of clubs.

The verdict: an excellent signing

Hailed by Brentford manager Thomas Frank as a ‘best player’ and ‘an incredible character’ who ‘brings quality and composure to the team’, it’s easy to see why so many clubs are in contention for the international Danish.

The attacking midfielder has amassed 236 Premier League appearances, having contributed 52 goals and 71 assists during his time in the English top flight (via Transfermarkt).

After signing for the Bees, Eriksen proved he still had the ability to perform at the highest level, having made ten starts where he played the full 90 minutes and ranked his team’s MVP for the campaign ( via SofaScore). His 7.54 mark also topped everyone else in Eddie Howe’s squad for 2021/22.

Therefore, it would be a brilliant signing for Newcastle if they can lure the Dane away from London.
