Marsch set to put ‘exceptional’ player back in Leeds squad

Junior Firpo could be set to make his first Leeds United appearance of the season against Aston Villa this weekend.

Firpo picked up an injury in pre-season and hasn’t even made the matchday squad yet this season.

But he featured for the Under-21 side in a 6-2 win over Southampton during the international break and is now set for a comeback.

Leeds Live report that Firpo should be fit enough for a place on the bench against Steven Gerrard’s men as he closes in on a comeback.

Firpo could play for Leeds against Villa

We haven’t had any injury news since the Brentford game other than confirmation of Rasmus Kristensen’s recovery and precious minutes for some of the Under-21s,” said journalist Beren Cross.

“Bamford was one of those who featured in Premier League Game 2 and although I didn’t watch, reports suggest he did well. Our guess is he is fit and ready to go. Villa.

“Firpo, like Bamford, played for the Under-21s and should be on the bench at least this weekend. I imagine Struijk still has the advantage as a starter over the Dominican.

Leeds have been without a specialist left-back in Firpo’s absence, with Pascal Struijk backing up and Leif Davis leaving the club this summer.

Firpo struggled in his first campaign in English football and he is said to have been looking to have a good pre-season before stepping up this time around.

That hasn’t happened, which makes things more difficult for him, but he will now be looking to show the qualities that made Tony Dorigo call him ‘remarkable’ in January.
