Paul Robinson has ‘a sneaky feeling’ Man United could pull off a blockbuster move for Bayern Munich striker Robert Lewandowski this summer.
Addressed exclusively to Football Insiderthe former Spurs and England number one claimed the 33-year-old would be the “perfect fit” for Erik ten Hag’s side.
Man United could be forced to search for a striker after Cristiano Ronaldo told the club he wanted to leave.
According to ESPN’s Rob Dawson (July 8), the Red Devils have been approached over the possibility of signing Paulo Dybala.
Robinson suggested Lewandowski would be a better option than Dybala at Old Trafford next season.
“If they lose Ronaldo, they will lose a lot of goals” he said Football Insider.
“Someone like Dybala could replace them even if he’s not an absolute number nine.
“I still have a sneaky feeling about Lewandowski. They are talking about him going to Barcelona but they are struggling to finance him at the moment. The longer it drags, the more likely you think it won’t come off.
“If Ronaldo leaves, there could be a domino effect. United could take a chance on Lewandowski. He would be the perfect fit for United.
“I know they’ve signed forwards of a certain age before like [Edinson] Cavani and Ronaldo. I think Lewandowski would be a very good fit for Old Trafford.
