Man indicted for uttering threats against journalist

HARIPUR: Police here on Wednesday registered a criminal case against a man for allegedly threatening a local journalist with death.

City police quoted Bakhtzada Khan, general secretary of the Haripur Journalists Union (HUJ), as saying that he had published an article in one of the Urdu-language newspapers highlighting the uncontrolled sale of ice drugs in the village. from Pandak.

He said he did not mention anyone involved in the drug trade in his report, but the other day while he was going to his office, a Shehryar from Pandak village came on his motorbike and intercepted him.

“He pulled up next to me brandishing a pistol and used abusive language before issuing death threats to me,” the complainant told police. Bakhtzada said when he called his brother and his friends, the accused escaped.

The local Urdu daily correspondent said he had no enmity with the accused. Upon his complaint to District Police Officer Imran Shahid, the city police had registered a criminal case against Shehryar under Sections 341 and 506 of the CPC.

Meanwhile, at a meeting of Haripur Press Club, Haripur Journalists Union and Haripur Electronic Media Association, journalists condemned the incident and demanded the speedy arrest of the accused and the protection of the complainant’s family members.

They also demanded an operation against the neighborhood drug traffickers.
