Liverpool interest in 19-year-old attacking midfielder confirmed by reporter

Liverpool are interested in Fulham man Fabio Carvalho, according to The Athletic’s James Pearce.

Carvalho, 19, has been on Fulham’s books for many years now, working his way through the youth ranks before making his senior debut for the club.

However, the Portugal native is now out of touch in the summer of 2022 and, as Pearce’s The Athletic report, Liverpool are keen to land the attacking midfielder.

However, many clubs are said to be interested, with Pearce adding that bringing him over in the summer would make more sense given his contact situation: “There is interest [from Liverpool]. There are a lot of clubs who love him. Bringing him in this summer would make more sense as he will be out of contract and available for a compensation fee.

“The question is whether Fulham try to cash in before the January deadline. They would get more money now than relying on a court.

Who is Fabio Carvalho?

Carvalho would make his senior debut for Fulham in 2020/21, scoring one league goal in four Premier League appearances.

But following Fulham’s relegation, Carvalho has become a regular fixture this season, scoring eight goals and assisting two in 17 league appearances so far in 2021/22.

Carvalho is an attacking midfielder by trade, but since Liverpool don’t usually operate with a traditional No.10 under Jurgen Klopp, could we see Carvalho playing a central midfield role much like Harvey Elliott?

Alternatively, Klopp could probably use the Portuguese as a winger on either flank if he wants.
