Lille journalist cites two reasons why Milan have edge over Newcastle in Botman talks

A journalist close to Lille has confirmed that AC Milan seem to be closing in on a double deal for Sven Botman and Renato Sanches.

French sports journalist Olivier Fosseux – who writes about Lille for regional newspaper La Voix du Nord – spoke to PianetaMilan about the progress of the two negotiations.

Regarding Botman, he claims that “nothing is official” but “the method is very similar to the one used successfully with Mike Maignan last season” and the Dutch defender “was very quickly convinced” of the idea of joining Milan .

Lille president Olivier Létang will set the price but given the Dutchman still has three years left on his contract, €30m plus bonuses could well be a fair price. Milan have two advantages over Newcastle: they will most likely play in the Champions League next season and Mike Maignan “is an excellent ambassador for the Italian club, his city and his fans”.

Then Renato Sanches and Jonathan David were mentioned as potential targets. Sanches shone against Milan in the Europa League last year while David is attracting interest from some top clubs. He suggests that buying Botman, Renato and David would cost €100m combined.
