Speaking on his YouTube channel, Alasdair Gold discussed Tottenham Hotspur’s hunt for a new centre-back and Pau Torres.

The London club are keen to strengthen their defense this summer, but unfortunately their search for a new centre-half is not going very well.

Alessandro Bastoni’s agent has confirmed his client plans to stay at Milan, while Josko Gvardiol is expected to be a bit too expensive for the north London club.

With Spurs’ two main targets unavailable, Gold says the next player on the club’s shortlist is Villarreal’s Pau Torres.

Gold talked about Torres.

“I assume the top two on Spurs’ roster won’t be available this summer. In order, next on the roster is Pau Torres who Spurs tried to sign last year but he turned them down, but it’s a whole different Tottenham Hotspur this summer,” Gold said.

“It’s Antonio Conte’s Tottenham, in the Champions League of course, and I think it helps that the two clubs have a good relationship. Villarreal want Lo Celso again next season, so I wonder if in talks on Lo Celso, there’s something you can do with Torres,” Gold said.

Not a bad alternative

If Pau Torres is your third-choice target at centre-back, you must have a big budget to play.

Indeed, Torres is a Spain international and one of the most coveted defenders in Europe. He played in a Champions League semi-final last season, and the fact that he is only Spurs’ third choice shows how serious they are about bolstering their defence.

Of course, it remains to be seen whether or not Tottenham can get this one over the line, but it’s certainly a rumor to get excited about.
