West Ham United supporters can be “very encouraged” by the club’s recent “great” transfer news, reports 90 Minutes reporter Toby Cudworth.
The Lowdown: Moyes keeps pushing…
Ahead of what will be a very interesting 2022/2023 Premier League season, West Ham and manager David Moyes will be looking to redeem themselves for their slight trip at the end of last campaign.
Which West Ham striker should he sign?
The east Londoners were unable to qualify for next year’s Europa League campaign after reaching the competition’s semi-finals on 21/22 – narrowly missing out on a Man United qualification spot on last day.
West Ham have shown ambition so far with the transfer of one of Ligue 1’s best defenders last season to Morocco international Nayef Aguerd, with reports suggesting a striker is also in order of the day.
The latest: Cudworth thrilled with Areola’s ‘great’ news…
Now 90min reporter Cudworth claims Irons supporters can be further encouraged by an ‘excellent’ development at West Ham which has now been confirmed.
Indeed, the Hammers have now secured the signing of goalkeeper Alphonse Areola on a permanent contract from Paris-Saint Germain, with the journalist delighted.
He explained (via Twitter):
“#WHUFC very effective so far in the transfer window. Areola is a great signing and will take care of the goalkeeping department for the next few years at least. Lots more business to be done, especially in the forward areas, but very encouraging for West Ham supporters.
The verdict: a fantastic move…
Sealing a deal for the 29-year-old not only gave Moyes the strength in depth behind number one Lukasz Fabianski, but also cemented his future heir for a fairly minimal fee of £10.5million.
After impressing for Moyes in cup competitions last season, most notably during their dazzling European run, we think Areola is a shot for the award, and such a move leaves funds available to pursue other goals, such as Chelsea striker Armando Broja.
