Italian journalist Matteo Barzaghi believes that at the moment Inter winger Ivan Perisic is the closest to Chelsea of any club, but his future is far from certain.
Speaking on his YouTube channel, as reported by FCInter1908, Barzaghi gave an update on the 33-year-old’s situation, believing a Nerazzurri departure is more likely than not but has yet to take his decision about his future.
Perisic appears set to reject the Nerazzurri’s contract extension offer unless they come much closer to his wage demands, and should he be available on a free transfer there would be no shortage of interest in the Croatian .
Reports have alternately suggested that Chelsea and Juventus are close to signing Perisic over the past few days, with the most recent links favoring the Bianconeri.
According to Barzaghi, however, there is still some way to go before any club agree a deal for the Croatian, but the Premier League appears to be his likeliest destination.
“We checked the situation in more detail, and it’s not quite as it’s portrayed in the papers,” Barzaghi said, “it’s very different from what we inferred from our sources.”
“The race for him is still open,” he added, “no one has secured him yet – he was in talks with Chelsea, the most likely destination remains England.”
Barzaghi explained that “after the final, Juve increased their offer and are ready to meet the player on a two-year contract with the option of a third one worth 6 million euros net per season. .”
“He turned down the €4.5m net plus supplements offered by Inter,” he added, “it’s a big offer – he could see the difference of €2m and decide to go to Turin.”
“Next week Inter will meet with their agents and make one last attempt,” Barzaghi continued, “maybe they will increase the add-ons, but in my opinion Perisic has already made up his mind. If not, he would not have spoken as he did.
