Thomas Tuchel is keen to bring Barcelona striker Ousmane Dembele to Chelsea, but the deal is complicated for the Blues, according to Sky Germany journalist Florian Plettenberg.
Dembele’s future at Barcelona has been causing concern for some time due to his reluctance to extend his contract. He was linked with a January exit from Camp Nou but ultimately stayed put.
The 25-year-old was later reinstated in the squad by Blaugrana boss Xavi in the second half of last season. He then provided 11 assists in his last 13 La Liga appearances for the club.
Dembele’s form during the second half of last season led to speculation he could stay at Barcelona. He has a good relationship with Xavi and would like to expand his association with the Catalans.
However, the France international hasn’t accepted Barcelona’s latest contract offer. Chelsea are looking to take advantage of the situation by reuniting him with their former Borussia Dortmund coach Tuchel at Stamford Bridge.
Plettenberg claimed Dembele is a ‘top priority’ for Tuchel this summer. However, no solution is in sight for the Blues, according to the Sky Germany journalist. The journalist wrote on Twitter:
“He [Dembele] is still the top priority for Tuchel! He wants him to join Chelsea [this] summer. But no solution in sight. It is complicated. Xavi would like him to stay [at Barcelona].”
Dembele and Tuchel worked together during their time at Bundesliga club Borussia Dortmund. The striker has scored 10 goals and provided 21 assists in 49 appearances under the German tactician.
Chelsea could drop interest in Dembele
Tuchel is said to be keen on signing Dembele, but it looks like Chelsea are aware of the difficulties in securing a deal for him. The Blues could thus turn to Manchester City’s Raheem Sterling to strengthen their attack.
The German tactician has touched base at the 27-year-old, according to The Daily Telegraph. The London giants are preparing an opening bid for the winger, according to the report.
Manchester City are said to value the England international at £50-60million. It remains to be seen if Chelsea are ready to meet Cityzens’ demands for the player.
Meanwhile, the Blues have agreed a deal for Romelu Lukaku to return to Inter Milan on a season-long loan deal.
