The truth: excluded

The Midlands club have revealed Neves are now ruled out until May after suffering a medial collateral ligament injury to his knee in the 3-2 home loss to Leeds United in the Premier League on Friday night.

Raul Jimenez also received a red card in this game, his second of the season, meaning he now faces a two-game ban.

With the North East side set to host Bruno Lage’s side at St. James’ Park on April 8, it means the Portuguese manager will no longer be able to call on both players for the clash.

The latest: Scurr reacts

Taking to Twitter, The Shields Gazette reporter Scurr gave his reaction to the update on Neves, saying while it’s a ‘huge blow’ for the Molineux faithful to lose him and Jimenez, it’s ‘good news’ for Eddie’s team How:

“Raul Jimenez and Ruben Neves left for the trip to NUFC next month.

“A big blow for Wolves who have lost two big players, but good news for Eddie Howe’s side.”

The verdict: relief

The fact that Neves can’t play above Jimenez will no doubt be a huge relief for Tyneside.

The latter got both assists in the reverse game earlier this campaign when Wanderers won 2-1, while Neves picked up a team-high two interceptions and also registered more touches (86) than anyone else in the game (SofaScore).

Neves has been one of the best players in WWFC overall this term, and combined with Jimenez’s threat in front of goal, the Magpies won’t mind seeing them next month.
