According to Fabrizio Romano, Arsenal, Leeds and Nottingham Forest target Cody Gakpo would like to move to the Premier League.
What is the story?
Well, it’s a boost for the English trio, who are all hoping to sign the Dutch international.
Gakpo has already admitted Leeds have ‘got in touch’ with him over a move to Elland Road, and Jesse Marsch remains interested in signing the Dutchman.
As for Nottingham Forest, Premier League newcomers have already sent an offer to PSV Eindhoven, as Steve Cooper looks to add to his numerous signings at the City Ground.
Elsewhere, Arsenal want Gakpo after missing out on Raphinha at Barcelona.
Romano adds that Manchester United are in internal discussions over whether to make a move for the 23-year-old, who has had a nothing short of phenomenal 2021/22 campaign.
In 46 appearances, Gakpo has scored 21 goals, while providing 15 assists.
Where the PSV Eindhoven No.11 will end up remains to be seen, but Premier League sides interested in signing him will surely be delighted to hear of his desire to play in the English top flight.
Arsenal, Leeds or Nottingham Forest may have to spend a fortune
In our view, Gakpo has the potential to follow Luis Suarez and Robin van Persie as they leave the Eredivisie for major European league success.
36 goals in one season is unbelievable, and given he has a contract until June 2026 in the Netherlands, PSV Eindhoven are well within their rights to demand a huge fee.
Gakpo is also a huge fan favourite, with supporters creating a huge contract for him in the stands in a bid to keep him at the club – interestingly, he signed it.
It has been said that PSV Eindhoven value their Academy graduate at £40million which is a fair price considering his outstanding efforts in the 2021/22 campaign.
Keep an eye on this situation as Gakpo could move to the Premier League soon.
