carnival of political punditry - August 12, 2007

Welcome to the August 12, 2007 edition of carnival of political punditry.

Troy Stouffer presents Expert Analysis Or Egomania? posted at I'm A Pundit Too, saying, "Each and every time you turn on the local, network, or cable news the “experts” are pontificating over their particular area of expertise. They make predictions about everything under the sun from global warming and the current political campaigns, to the economy and the stock market. The amusing aspect of this nightly “expert” analysis is that a few months or years down the road, the experts are all shocked at the outcome. The shocking aspect is that the same news producers continue to trot out the same shocked experts to provide the “expert” analysis on the topic of the day."

Sammy Benoit presents YID With LID: Democrats Suck up To Daily Kos Hate Site posted at YID With LID.

Chris Moreau presents The Politics Hour posted at ChrisMoreau.com, saying, "I've had it with the left and the right..."

I personally enjoy reading people's gripes about Republicans and Democrats.
If you are sick of it all, this is a good one for you. I don't condone everything Moreau says, but he has a point.

Charles H. Green presents We've All Caught the Detroit Disease posted at Trust Matters, saying, "As the US car industry continues its inexorable decline it's worth looking at why and asking if the rest of the country is also exhibiting the symptoms of the "Detroit Disease"."

This is a good one if you enjoy discussing economics as much as I do. If you don't enjoy it, read this anyways, you may learn something.

Alvaro Fernandez presents Training the Aging Workforce posted at SharpBrains: Your Window into the Brain Fitness Revolution, saying, "In the debate about social security and health care, we are often forgetting this important demographic trend and how to turn it in our favor."

Jack Le Moine presents Yet ANOTHER Big Bucks Lawsuit posted at Jack Le Moine's Blog

I think I'm going to have a chat about this one in the discussion forum this week.

Jeremy Hitchcock presents Fruit of the War Crimes posted at WTTF: Welcome to the Future, saying, "A nation united... against underpants."

Welcome to the July 22, 2007 edition of carnival of political punditry.

Wenchypoo presents Open Letter to Cindy Sheehan posted at Wisdom From Wenchypoo's Mental Wastebasket.

Wenchypoo presents Invasion of the Pod People, Round 2 (L-O-N-G) posted at Wisdom From Wenchypoo's Mental Wastebasket, saying, ""I see Pod People...they're EVERYWHERE...and they don't even know they're being used!""

Sammy Benoit presents There Was Never a Terrorist Threat, The Check is in the Mail, John Edwards is right about bumper stickers and other great lies. posted at YID With LID.

Sammy Benoit presents Democrats Want a Don't Ask-Don't Tell Terror Policy posted at YID With LID.

Tracee Sioux presents Unrealistic Expectations of Perfection posted at So Sioux Me, saying, "Why can't people apply the same "good enough" role model standards to the female candidate as they do the male candidate? Is it the unrealistic expectations of perfection that keep Conservative women from being on Hillary's team?"

Troy Stouffer presents Equal Opportunity Politics? posted at I'm A Pundit Too, saying, "Race, religion, ethnicity, and gender are all factors that are being put in play by the myriad of presidential candidates. The particular candidates are betting that their gender, or race, or religion, or ethnic background is the ‘X’ factor that will push their candidacy over the top. The majority of the Democratic candidates basically have the same set of core beliefs or positions. The same is true for the Republican candidates. Each campaign is looking for the one thing that sets them apart from the other candidates. Do these “classifications” really matter? Should they?"

Cade Krueger presents Building Your Home Business In A Difficult Political Climate posted at Write To Right.

Ashok presents Rethink.: Greatness and Individualism in Tocqueville posted at Rethink., saying, "Reflection on where the problem with our emphasis on individualism lies: does it make us too proud in some cases? Or is it prone to a fear so deep we don't even realize we are fearful?"

Adam Pieniazek presents Best Political Candidate Ever: None of the Above posted at Adam Pieniazek, saying, "A post about an initiative in Massachusetts to list "None of the Above" as an option on election ballots. If NOTA wins, a new election is triggered with new candidates."

Madeleine Begun Kane presents Yet Another Filibuster Song Parody (The Full-a-Bluster Song) posted at Mad Kane's Humor Blog.

DWSUWF presents Fixing Fairness - A modest technology solution. posted at Divided We Stand United We Fall, saying, "Certainly there is a fairness problem with broadcasters, but if we look at this problem objectively, we see it cannot be solved by dealing with the broadcasters alone. The bigger problem resides in the listeners, watchers, and readers"

Jack Yoest presents The Dreamer Goes To Peru...Without Her Mao Bag. posted at Reasoned Audacity, saying, "I asked the woman why she wanted to work for us.

carnival of political punditry - July 8, 2007

Welcome to the July 8, 2007 edition of carnival of political punditry.

When you get a moment, please check out my new home page: http://thenewpundit.com/

Jack Yoest presents Navy Seal Marcus Luttrell Reports: How Liberals Think in War posted at Reasoned Audacity, saying, "The only time a manager should shout or bark out an order demanding instant obedience is if the building is on fire: an emergency. Navy Seal Marcus Luttrell had a few minutes to make a decision and decided to take a vote. It wasn't an emergency, just yet.

"It was the stupidest, most southern-fried, lamebrained decision I ever made in my life," Luttrell writes. "I must have been out of my mind. I had actually cast a vote which I knew could sign our death warrant. I'd turned into a (expletive) liberal, a half-assed, no-logic nitwit, all heart, no brain, and the judgment of a jack rabbit.

Marcus Luttrell tells his story in Lone Survivor and is reported in A war hero from Huntsville rues a decision made in Afghanistan

Sammy Benoit presents Homeland Insecurity posted at YID With LID. A Democrat House Committee secretly ordered the removal of all references to the "Global War On Terror," nonchalantly claiming it wasn't political. Who are they fooling? The Military Times reported that Erin Conaton, a staffer on Missouri Rep. Ike Skelton's House Armed Services Committee, banished the term "Global War On Terror" from the 2008 defense bill, in a Mar. 27 memo to Democrats.

Ashok presents Is Democracy Feasible? (Reflections on the Gettysburg Address) posted at Rethink.Democracy is feasible, but it requires beatitude. Otherwise, it is worse than worthless: it is merely prelude to anarchy. It is truly tragic that awareness of the need for beatitude should come at the expense of so much blood.

Lucynda Riley presents This is why my son is Homeschooled posted at Quietly Into the Night.

Charles Modiano presents History's Hit Job on Thomas Paine posted at CLEAN OUR HOUSE! - Killing the Bigotry in all of US. Thomas Paine was ahead of his time, and this fact gives us iconic options that few know exist. If saddled with the choice of “men of their times” versus “men of our times”, shouldn’t it be a no-brainer who gets the historical love? Shouldn’t our history books make it self-evident that all white men in white wigs were not created equal? Unfortunately, I never did learn anything about Thomas Paine “the abolitionist” or “women’s rights activist” in school.

Wenchypoo presents Who Needs Universal Health Care? posted at Wisdom From Wenchypoo's Mental Wastebasket. People like Michael Moore, that's who! Did you know he was a third-generation unemployed union auto worker, not to mention a heart attack waiting to happen (have you seen him lately?).

Kathryn Lang presents Division Will Destroy the United States posted at The Peculiar Club. I am all for compassion. I am all for understanding. I am all for celebrating uniqueness. The counterbalance must be that first and foremost we stand united. “United we stand.” Diversity is great – division will destroy.

D presents 43 Famous people who should run for President posted at The Hiller Report, saying, "An amusing list of famous people and things who should run for President in '08. Includes 43 pictures."

Anna - On The Ponderosa presents LIBERTY AND JUSTICE FOR ALL posted at On The Ponderosa.

Don presents Ron Paul - Who Is Ron Paul And What Is He Smoking? : DirtFromTexas.Com posted at DirtFromTexas.Com, saying, "While others who think they know this Texas Congressman run to jump on his bandwagon, I show people some of the things that Ron Paul does, not says. I happen to live in the district next to his and I get a first hand view of the double talking "see what I say, not what I do" actions."

Kilroy_60 presents George W. Bush and Dick Cheney Are A National Disgrace For America posted at Fear And Loathing - The Gonzo Papers.

Steven Silvers presents WakeUpWalMart defections might mean union-backed activist groups have done all they can do. posted at Scatterbox at stevensilvers.com, saying, "Departing leaders of a prominent political-style anti-Wal-Mart group perhaps think they’ll accomplish more through a well-coiffed multimillionaire populist presidential candidate."

carnival of political punditry - July 1, 2007

Welcome to the July 1, 2007 edition of carnival of political punditry. I am incredibly tired at the moment, but I promised myself that I would comment on some of the submissions this week.

Hakim Abdullah presents An Islamic View of Suicide Bombing posted at Hakim Abdullah.

Hakim has contributed to this carnival in the past. I read this article and two thoughts come up: We need more Muslims to share this view. We need those who do share this view to be more vocal.

Tracee Sioux presents Who Doesn’t Have a Crush on Barack Obama? posted at Blog Fabulous, saying, "The Latin sex-pot with the dity about having a crush on Barack Obama certainly isn't going to hurt his campaign."

I can honestly say that I do not have a crush on Obama. This brings up an intersting point. Bill Clinton was seen as hot by a lot of women. In 2004, John Edwards was the hot Vice President candidate. And now we have Obama. I wonder how democrats make their decisions.

Tracee Sioux presents Global Gag Rule is Anti-Girl posted at So Sioux Me, saying, "The Global Gag Rule and limitations on the distribution of contraception is blatantly anti-girl and anti-woman."

Madeleine Begun Kane presents Suffering From Bloomberg-Envy ... Or Just an Idiotic Egomaniac? posted at Mad Kane's Political Madness.

Ashok presents Question: Should Political Science Exist? Why? posted at Rethink..

An interesting piece on why we feel the need for debate.

Matt presents Two federal agencies on power grab - why Republicans are like sneaky little kids posted at The Displaced Republican, saying, "I used to think the Republican Party stood for small government. I recently figured it out that when it comes to the big/small government debate, they're actually worse than the Dems...they're like sneaky little kids."

Matt gives one of many good examples for this argument. Republicans need to start acting like Conservatives again.

Wenchypoo presents In Honor of High Milk Prices posted at Wisdom From Wenchypoo's Mental Wastebasket, saying, "There's nothing more political than farm subsidies that are no longer working thanks to ethanol!"

Big Government at its best. Subsidies for bad ideas.

Sammy Benoit presents Jumping off the Bush Bandwagon? No Bush Jumped off Mine posted at YID With LID.

Did George Bush forget who voted for him in 2004?

Mark25 presents Management vs. Politics posted at HotStrategies.com.

Kyle presents Cheney Inspires Me posted at Nascent Notions, saying, "Cheney Invents his own Branch of government and I follow suite"

Kyle presents Immigration: The Devil's Name is Amnesty posted at Nascent Notions.

Why debate an issue when you can accuse someone of being a racist instead?

Hell's Handmaiden presents More Firepower? Less Crime? hell's handmaiden posted at Hell's Handmaiden.

I don't think the Handmaiden likes guns. This argument will go on forever I think.

Jack Yoest presents Lurita Alexis Doan, GSA Chief: Capitalism Meets Politics posted at Reasoned Audacity, saying, "When a person of note is covered by the media in Your Nation's Capital, three questions are asked by the victim:
1) Is there a picture?
2) Is it above the fold?
3) Is the story running on the weekend?"

It's pretty simple. If Representative Waxman is accusing someone of something, there is a witchhunt in progress.

Charles H. Green presents Trust, Politics and US Health Care Policy posted at Trust Matters, saying, "A Harvard Business School prof uses the standard tools of business analysis to indict US health care - a system that serves neither business nor the public, yet seems impossible to fix so it works for either."

Charles discusses the book "Who Killed Health Care?"

George W caused Global Warming.

George W. -- the definition of warmonger -- is solely responsible for Global Warming. To prove this, all you must do is look at the Delaware River.

And when I say George W., I of course mean George Washington.

I am sure that everyone will recognize the very famous picture of Washington crossing the Delaware River on Christmas day in 1776. Then again, with today's public education and the lack of focus on things that are actually important, maybe a lot of people reading this have no idea what I am referring to. History doesn't help kids' self-esteem much, so I am guessing that it is no longer in today's curriculum.

To refresh your memory, then General Washington took 2,400 men across the near frozen Delaware River to attack a garrison of British soldiers in New Jersey. This was a turning point in the war because the American troops had just lost New York City and their morale was extremely low. Had Washington not crossed the Delaware to attack the British in the Battle of Trenton, we may all be speaking British right now. Again, with today's education system, most people won't even understand that last joke.

What isn't discussed very often is that the Delaware River doesn't actually freeze to the point that we see in the now famous picture. Did the artist exaggerate to make Washington and the troops look more courageous? Let us examine this little thing that I like to call "history."

While watching the History Channel this past weekend, I caught a great piece about what is commonly called the "mini ice age" or "little ice age." This was a time from about the 16th to 19th century in which the earth suffered through 3 little periods of extreme cooling with each little period separated by slight warming. The exact time period is a matter of debate of course, but this is why the picture of the Delaware crossing looks exaggerated. The river was almost frozen over, which doesn't happen today because the earth has been warming. Again, the time period is a matter of debate. In fact, the Atlantic ice pack began to expand in the 13th century while the global glacial expansion did not begin until the 16th century.

There isn't as much debate about when the mini ice age ended. Most believe it was in the 19th century, around 1850. This would be less than a century after the Delaware crossing. The earth started warming, and somehow did so without the help of SUVs and coal burning power plants.

So, what caused the sudden warming at the end of the mini ice age? To try and answer that, we must first find out what caused the cooling that started the mini ice age. Common theories claim that the heightened volcanic activity combined with lower sunspot activity caused the ice age. The volcanic activity caused solar radiation to be reflected back into space. The low sunspot activity may have meant lower solar radiation also. When both of these reversed (lessened volcanic activity, increased sunspots) in the 19th century, the temperature began to increase.

I said all of that to say this. Much of the debate over Global Warming is being controlled by absolute morons. Anyone who claims that there is a scientific consensus and that the debate is over and the science is settled needs to be examined by a doctor and possibly locked up for the good of everyone else. And why not lock them up? Why can’t I say that they should be put away? They like to have anyone who disagrees with them ridiculed and fired. So, claiming that they should be examined is really just reflecting their arguments back at them. I know it seems childish, and that is exactly the point. They are being childish.

R. Timothy Patterson is professor and director of the Ottawa-Carleton Geoscience Centre, Department of Earth Sciences, Carleton University. He published an interesting piece just yesterday. Here are some highlights.

We are assured by everyone from David Suzuki to Al Gore to Prime Minister Stephen Harper that "the science is settled."
The fact that science is many years away from properly understanding global climate doesn't seem to bother our leaders at all. Inviting testimony only from those who don't question political orthodoxy on the issue, parliamentarians are charging ahead with the impossible and expensive goal of "stopping global climate change."
Climate stability has never been a feature of planet Earth. The only constant about climate is change; it changes continually and, at times, quite rapidly. Many times in the past, temperatures were far higher than today, and occasionally, temperatures were colder. As recently as 6,000 years ago, it was about 3C warmer than now. Ten thousand years ago, while the world was coming out of the thousand-year-long "Younger Dryas" cold episode, temperatures rose as much as 6C in a decade -- 100 times faster than the past century's 0.6C warming that has so upset environmentalists. From Read the sunspots, Financial Post, published June 20, 2007.

Professor Patterson then goes on to explain his theory regarding the effects of solar activity on the temperature of the earth. Of course, this scientist and professor will soon be ridiculed for his efforts. So I'm going to go ahead and get it all out of the way now. Let me clear my throat.

"R. Timothy Patterson is not a real scientist. Just because he is the director of the Ottawa-Carleton Geoscience Centre, Department of Earth Sciences, Carleton University does not mean he knows anything about earth science. Patterson is on the payroll of George W. Bush and Exxon. One lone nutcase like Patterson is trying to argue with millions and billions of real scientists who actually care about the earth. Patterson is a holocaust denier."

I'm certain that Al Gore and people from The Huffington Post have many more childish insults that they can toss at Professor Patterson. And yes, someone in the media has actually said that Global Warming skeptics are like holocaust deniers. If you like, please feel free to leave anything I missed in the comments. Thank you.

The UN and various Global Warming advocates are pushing a recent study and claiming that it settles the argument once and for all. This study claims that the earth's temperature is rising at an alarming rate and it is all our fault. Please note that in all the history of the earth, science has never been wrong when politicians agree with it and decree it to be the truth. Please also note that the sun revolves around a perfectly flat earth. Science has always known everything that there is to know, which explains why we continue to find new cures for diseases and new plant and animal life.

It also explains more of what Professor Patterson said in his article.

In a 2003 poll conducted by German environmental researchers Dennis Bray and Hans von Storch, two-thirds of more than 530 climate scientists from 27 countries surveyed did not believe that "the current state of scientific knowledge is developed well enough to allow for a reasonable assessment of the effects of greenhouse gases." About half of those polled stated that the science of climate change was not sufficiently settled to pass the issue over to policymakers at all.

This shows that only four years ago, climate scientist acknowledged that there is more to be done before any consensus can be claimed. If you believe that in four short years they have suddenly made all the discoveries they need to make and that nothing more needs to be done, you are a dumbass. I hate to be harsh, but this is absolutely the nicest thing I can think to say about anyone who believes the science regarding the effects of greenhouse gases on the earth's temperature is settled. There is no consensus in the scientific community on the causes of historical changes in earth's temperature, but I am supposed to believe that there is a consensus on the future?

I'm going to be blunt here, Al Gore is either pushing an agenda that he does not believe in, or the man is record-setting stupid. Due to the fact that he is a politician, I cannot even begin to speculate on which of the two choices is correct. There are scientists all over the globe who will tell you that his movie is full of holes. Despite this, people will read what I am writing and accuse me of not thinking for myself.

I am going to repeat that last part to make sure it is clear. I will be accused of not thinking for myself by people who have not yet questioned anything that Al Gore says about Global Warming. Did everyone get that? I will be told that the science of Global Warming is settled by people who tell me that I am blindly following Big Oil propaganda. I am certain that some of you are reading this paragraph and laughing a little inside because you realize the truth behind what I am saying. I am also certain that others of you are reading this, and you are lockstep in line and screaming your blind accusations.

CO2 is being blamed by some for the slight increase in temperature that we have seen over the past century. History has shown that the temperature has risen in the past over 100 times faster in a decade than it has in the past century. Despite this, blaming CO2 is supposedly a consensus. The reality is that CO2 is not a common factor in the history of climate changes. The reality is that CO2 is blamed mostly be people who only look at the current warming trend and have decided to rule out other possibilities regardless of the fact that they are more obvious answer. Not only is this not a consensus, it is not good science. To say that the answer is CO2 simply because you do not have any other answer is horrible science.

But let's be honest. Why don't we just apply the same principles to the mini ice age period that we apply today? I blame George Washington. He won the war, and then he became the President of the United States. He was a warmongering U.S. President; therefore the Global Warming that began and continues today is all his fault. Why should we be logical about this?

We need to get to a point where we can have an actual debate on this issue. Not only are the alarmist wrong in their supposed consensus, they are dangerously wrong. I'll quote the professor's article again.

Solar scientists predict that, by 2020, the sun will be starting into its weakest Schwabe solar cycle of the past two centuries, likely leading to unusually cool conditions on Earth. Beginning to plan for adaptation to such a cool period, one which may continue well beyond one 11-year cycle, as did the Little Ice Age, should be a priority for governments. It is global cooling, not warming, that is the major climate threat to the world, especially Canada. As a country at the northern limit to agriculture in the world, it would take very little cooling to destroy much of our food crops, while a warming would only require that we adopt farming techniques practiced to the south of us.
Meantime, we need to continue research into this, the most complex field of science ever tackled, and immediately halt wasted expenditures on the King Canute-like task of "stopping climate change."

Harry Reid and Nancy Pelosi Can See the Future!!!!

Now I know why the democrats took back Congress. Their two brave leaders can see the future!!

This is great news.

I know you are confused, so I will explain.

June 13, 2007. Nancy and Harry
sent a letter to President Bush explaining to him that the surge in Iraq was a failure.
"As many had forseen, the escalation has failed to produce the intended results," the two leaders wrote.
"The increase in US forces has had little impact in curbing the violence or fostering political reconciliation.
"It has not enhanced Americas national security. The unsettling reality is that instances of violence against Iraqis remain high and attacks on US forces have increased.
"In fact, the last two months of the war were the deadliest to date for US troops."

Somehow, these two great leaders managed to predict the outcome of a surge that HAD NOT EVEN BEGUN.

I know, you are still confused. I will now waste a huge amount of time by directing your attention to some Lt. General Raymond Odierno, Multi-National Forces, Iraq. Again, this is a huge waste because as we all know, the generals in Iraq have no freaking clue about what is going on in that country.
Pat Dollard posted a video of an interview Lt. Gen. Odierno gave to CNN. Be warned, this idiot general tries to give the impression that US troops are actually winning in Iraq, so his word doesn't mean much. As we all know, the war is lost. Harry Reid predicted this loss long ago and he knows lots more about the Iraq war than those dumb people who are actually fighting in it.

This idiot tells us in the CNN interview that the surge really began June 15th. This means that Harry and Nancy were able to declare the new strategy to be a complete failure a full two days before it began. This is amazing. It is good to know that we have these two people running our country who can tell us that a strategy that has not yet been used is already failing.

I plan on contacting my own elected officials tomorrow to get some stock market predictions.

Gee, I Wonder What Causes Islamophobia

Thanks to Redstate and Breitbart for this news.

Here is the reaction to the knighthood of Salman Rushdie.

Pakistan demanded on Monday that Britain withdraw a knighthood awarded to author Salman Rushdie, as a government minister said the honour gave a justification for suicide attacks by Muslims.

Angry protesters in several cities torched British flags and beat them with their shoes in protest at the accolade for the Indian-born writer of "The Satanic Verses" and chanted "Death to Britain, death to Rushdie."

"If somebody has to attack by strapping bombs to his body to protect the honour of the Prophet, then it is justified," Pakistani Religious Affairs Minister Ijaz-ul-Haq told the national assembly.

Here is who he is and what he did.

Rushdie, 59, was forced to go into hiding for a decade after Iran's Ayatollah Ruhollah Khomeini in 1989 issued a death sentence over his book "The Satanic Verses" claiming it insulted Islam.

And here is the response from Iran.

Iran has already accused British leaders of "Islamophobia" after Rushdie -- now Sir Salman -- was awarded the knighthood by Queen Elizabeth II on Saturday to mark her 81st birthday.

Did everyone catch that? They claim justification for suicide attacks, they issue a death sentence over a book, and then they accuse others of "Islamophobia."

Well, shit, I wonder what could possibly have caused all of this "Islamophobia?" Why can't we just brush aside the justifying of a death sentence and suicide bombings over a book and realize that these people are all peaceful, fun-loving sweethearts who are just misunderstood?

"We demand that Britain should refrain from such acts which hurt the sentiments of Muslims and take back the title of Sir given to Rushdie," parliamentary affairs minister Sher Afgan said.

And I demand that you go fuck yourself. Hey tardo boy, has it ever occurred to you that suicide bombings hurt a lot more and that maybe you should spend more time condemning terrorism than books?

Now if everyone will excuse me, I am on my way to the bathroom with a few pictures of the prophet.

Amnesty Equals No Dollars.

What a GREAT day I had today. My mother is in town for a few weeks and decided to have her mail temporarily forwarded to our house. So today in the mail is two wonderful little items, her renewal fees for the GOP and a card from President Bush trying to get additional donations and a birthday card we were supposed to fill out and send back to him.

Yeah, I filled it out.

You will have to excuse me, Spanish isn't really my thing, but the card went something like this.

"El Presidenta. Gracias for the social security. Signed, Hector from venezuala."

I was really tired and didn't have the brain power to think up a bit more, or to actually check my spelling.

Oh yeah, two different forms that were asking for money. Well, I took some advice from a
Michelle Malkin archive.

Yeah, It was a great day today.

Note: The above scan is not mine. I am using it as the example of what I did. The above was sent to Malkin from one of her readers.

carnival of political punditry - June 17, 2007

Welcome to the June 17, 2007 edition of carnival of political punditry.

This is an interesting carnival. We begin with some jabs at the President and the GOP in general with few articles about the Iraq war in the mix. We then move on to some opinions about the current economy. Staying on course with current events, we move on to the Immigration debate. One blogger gives his feelings on JFK. In a bit of contrast, one blogger tells us why we need laws, while another tells that laws do nothing but destroy. In a strong finish, we try to figure out how our planet survives with so many physical poisons, and with so many social poisons, then we end up with some Mitt Romney humor.

Only Three Notes presents How to become an American President? posted at Only Three Notes, saying, "This is Arnab, the antichrist again. This would be my second post in this blog. Can Romney Gain Points by Announcing His Running Mate Now?

Oh the little things.

I have a written a couple of pieces about Senator Jim DeMint on my blog recently, I have also posted
his latest statement about the shamnesty bill that he is trying to kill. I have made no secret that he has recently gained a great deal of support from myself. I thought about trying to draft him into the presidential race and also suggested that he would make a great running mate for Fred Thompson.

But some additional research makes me wonder if another candidate isn't already considering DeMint for the position of Vice President.

I didn't know this until moments ago, but
Jim DeMint has endorsed Mitt Romney and in fact is the senior advisor to the Romney for President Exploratory Committee. I have attached the links for the Press Release and the letter of support from Senator DeMint. If DeMint were more popular back in January when he endorsed Romney, this would have probably been bigger news and I probably wouldn't be sitting here saying, "Wow, look at that." But due to the fact that DeMint has just recently gained any real popularity, I am just now seeing this. I am also wondering if a few people wont read this while they are thinking to themselves that they have known this for a long time and that it isn't new news. Well, it's new to me.

"We must elect a President in 2008 who is up to the task, and I need you to encourage Mitt to run. ... As a leader who has spent most of his life in the private sector, Governor Romney will call on America's strength and character to solve problems and secure our future."

I am not sure what to think of Romney or DeMint to be honest. They are both on the radar just very recently, so their politics is only known by those who have done the research. I have been considering supporting Romney in the primaries, even over the prospect of Fred Thompson. And now that I see support from Senator DeMint, who had done a great job preventing the shamnesty bill from going to a vote, Romney has gained points in my view.

If Romney were to give indication that Senator DeMint was his choice for a running mate, he would shoot up the ladder. I may be wrong, but I think that DeMint was mentioned as a possibility when Romney was name dropping a few weeks back. And if the Senator is able to defeat shamnesty, they would gain favor in the ranks of conservatives who are against this bill. Much of the political landscape is going to be shaped by what happens to this bill and what action is taken for border security. Conservatives are split over this issue by those who want to support the GOP at all costs and those who are more concerned about policy that party. The candidate who can mend this split has the best shot at becoming the next President of the United States.

Maybe We Should Draft This Guy

As all of my loyal readers are aware (both of you), I recently awarded Jim DeMint "Coolest Person In Congress At The Moment." This is a very prestigious award in certain ranks. It just happens that those ranks are very secretive, so chances are you have never heard of them.

I did a little investigation, which means I looked at Senator DeMint's website. I discovered that his push to stop shamnesty isn't the only thing that makes this man a patriot and a great American who should be placed upon a pedestal and have his praises sung to him. Ok, maybe I'm a little overboard.

Senator DeMint also supports a version of the Consumption Tax, or Fair Tax. He calls it the "8.5% Tax Reform Plan." The specifics are on his website. Here are the highlights:

Replace all individual federal income taxes with a flat 8.5% national retail sales tax on new goods and services.

Provide a universal rebate to all Americans so that the poor are not taxed on basic consumption. The rebate is applied through the reduction in payroll taxes.

Replace all corporate income taxes with a flat 8.5% business transfer tax.

He claims that this is revenue neutral. This is a matter of debate. The estimates for a needed consumption tax rate have been between 23% and 35% to ensure that the federal revenues continue to rise to pay for all of the very necessary earmarks for Congressional pet projects that mean nothing to the average taxpayer. However, the argument remains that if we had such bold tax reform, it would increase economical investment in the U.S. to such an extent that tax revenues could possibly increase substantially. Companies and individuals would no longer spend untold billions on tax preparations and the prices of goods and services would decrease. Fewer jobs would be sent overseas. This may or may not be tax neutral, the problem is that we just don't know until we try it. It is all economical theory. Of course, if you added this bold reform to spending reform, it increases your chances of tax neutrality.

Because this is so debatable an issue, we will instead stick to the 45,000 page long IRS tax code that no one understands and which currently allows an estimated 400 billion dollars in tax cheats each year. That is an interesting estimate because if the IRS were collecting it, there would be no federal deficit at the moment. I just thought I would mention that part.

Senator DeMint seems to have a strong position on two very important issues, borders and taxes. This is why I would like to see him have more of a leadership roll in the Republican Party in D.C. right now. In fact, I wouldn't mind seeing this guy as a Presidential candidate. I like his stance on both of these very important issues, and he demonstrated an ability last week to play the political game when it was necessary to help stall the horrible shamnesty bill, I mean the "Comprehensive Immigration Reform" bill. No, I mean shamnesty. He was able to gain enough support from a handful of Republicans and Democrats to force a vote the stalled the bill. He will now be judged on his ability to finish killing this thing. If he can get it done, it would certainly help him gain popularity with the American public.

Of course there are already ten men running for the GOP nomination. The two most liberal are the front runners because they are popular. Senator DeMint is not popular like McCain and Giuliani, and he isn't an actor. If he jumped into the race, he would lose. And we would probably lose too because he would be focusing on his campaign and his help in defeating shamnesty would be missed.

I do have a compromise however. Maybe DeMint should be Fred Thompson's running mate.

Message to the GOP -- We Are Not Democrats

This is one reason why my voter card has an "I" for "Independent"
by The New Pundit

To quote John Hawkins, "The GOP seems to be under the impression that conservatives have a duty to support their policies and decisions in office. This is exactly backwards and is the sort of thinking you'd expect from Feudal lords, not from American politicians. Conservatives put these Republicans into office to represent our views and the reason they're not getting a lot of support from the base is because they're doing a very poor job of showing us that they're listening and responding to what we want them to do."

It seems that the Republicans in Congress have mistaken us. They seem to believe that we are in fact Democrats. I can understand the kind of thinking that Hawkins describes above in the circles of people like Pelosi and Reid, but not in the circles of people like McCain and Graham. Let's take a good look at the thought process of the average Democrat. I'll give some examples.

Many Democrats are of the belief that Clinton was the greatest president ever. Ask them why and they spout off things about the economy and that our country was at peace with the rest of the world. They of course don't talk about the fact that Clinton was handed an economy that was already booming, and gave it to Bush Jr. on the brink of recession. They also fail to discuss the fact that Clinton sent out more force deployments than any president since WW2, most of which were abject failures. They also gloss over the fact that much of the strife today took hold while he was in office and was in fact made worse because of the failures of his deployments. That isn't peace.

Democrats believe that Carter was a great president. They forget that he installed the current government in Iran. They forget about the horrible economy that he made worse.

There are numerous examples of democrats holding up their own, while shouting in protest when the other side actually agrees with them. Clinton was the one who suggested putting Social Security funds into the stock market. Clinton was the one who signed the Iraq Liberation Act. When Bush tries to move both of these forward, he is called an oil loving Hitler by the same people who applauded Clinton.

There are many other examples I could give, (
Sandy Berger, William Jefferson) but I want to get to the point. Democrats have a history of doing exactly as they are told. They rarely hold their politicians accountable for their actions, such as a homosexual relationship with an underage page. We have all come to expect this.

But for some reason, it seems that Republicans believe that their supporters are just that, supporters. Hawkins nails them down pretty well. They are under the impression that we are here to give them a rubber stamp. There is no better example than in the current debate over immigration.

Conservatives have been screaming about the problem at the southern border for a long time. As this issue has
cost taxpayers more and more, we have become more and more vocal about our displeasure. Illegal aliens, despite the lie about them doing jobs Americans won't do, are a net loss to our economy. As the number of illegal aliens increases, so increases the unemployment rate and the crime rate within the black community as the illegal aliens take jobs from that community by accepting lower wages. And now we know that they are bringing terrorists with them. We now know that Hugo Chavez is aligned with Iran to bring down the U.S. We know that Al-Qaeda has set up training camps in South American countries to send people through the border. Our voices have become louder and louder as we have more and more reasons to show concern.

Given all of this, how does D.C. decide to handle the lack of law enforcement at our borders? They decide to make new laws. Legislation for legislation's sake. They decided that we need "Comprehensive Immigration Reform." Not only did Republicans jump on board this bandwagon, but it is in fact the Republican President who has led the charge.

I'm going to be frank here. Let me clear my throat. Every single person in Congress who is showing any support whatsoever for the half dead immigration bill that Ted Kennedy and his cohorts put together is in blatant violation of the United States Constitution and needs to be impeached. It is that simple.

Here is my message to the Republicans in Congress. We are not Democrats. We do not support you when you do not support us. When you lie and cheat, we hold you accountable. Apparently you didn't figure this out last year when you made Nancy Pelosi 2nd in line to the President. I know that the Democrats had to lie and cheat to take the majority, but you allowed it to happen when you acted like them. You acted like the Democratic Party and then expected conservative voters to act like Democratic voters. I don't know how it is that you didn't realize how badly you pissed us off. You pissed us off then and you are pissing us off now. STOP PISSING US OFF!!!!! Is this clear yet? If it is not clear yet, we are going to have a Democratic majority for a long while. We are also going to have a Democratic president in a couple of years. Most of the people I know can't afford the taxes and jacked up health care that this will surely bring.

If this does not stop, the Democrats will take over. The really bad news is that when they take over, they will take these same problems and make them worse. That is what they are good at. And the Republican Party politicians will have only themselves to blame.

We are not Democrats.

carnival of political punditry - June 10, 2007

Welcome to the June 10, 2007 edition of carnival of political punditry. I don't hide the fact that my blog is a conservative blog. I write conservative opinions and so does the other writer, Troy.

I decided to do a wide open blog carnival, allowing opinions from the left and the write. After a good look, I almost feel like I need to put in a "Opinions do not reflect" disclaimer.

The submissions are all here, I didn't turn away anything that was submitted. I will be doing this each week and I will continue to post so long as the submissions do not push too far. There is one that is off topic, and this is the only time it will be allowed.

Some of this is funny, some of it is cause for concern, and some of it is very informative. I don't agree with it all, but here it is.

And the Winner Is...

By The New Pundit
According to John Hawkins of rightwingnews.com, the phone calls and petitions against the shamnesty bill may be having an influence.

"I asked my source if his boss has been hearing from his constituents on this bill and what the for and against ratio was. He said that they have received thousands and thousands of calls and the ratio was something like 95%-98% against the bill."

According to the same article, it looks like part of the reason this bill wont make it is Senator Jim DeMint of South Carolina. I am thinking of moving there just to vote for him next time he is due.

Apparently, DeMint led the charge to add amendments to the bill that would require border security be in place before shamnesty is allowed and would require illegal aliens to have private health insurance in place before they can receive a Z visa. These two amendments posed a problem for Reid and others, and for a very obvious reason. They make too much sense. These amendments would be completely unfair to the people who have broken the law by sneaking across the border and using fake identification to take low-skilled jobs away from our current welfare recipients. They would be really fair to the hard working people who are legal citizens of this country, but as we all know, these people and their opinions are being left out of the entire process by the shamnesty supporters.

Reid and company did not want these amendments to be discussed or voted upon because they would put a huge strain on the charge to destroy our country. They would basically make the heart of the bill completely worthless because the point of this bill is to allow shamnesty to a bunch of criminals without requiring them to do much of anything in return. All of this led to a whole mess of D.C. insanity and basically stalled the bill altogether and may actually kill it, God-willing.

In the meantime, Jim DeMint is the winner of a brand new award. He is the recipient of the "Coolest Person In Congress At The Moment" award.

They Never Rest; More Crazy Propaganda from the Huffington Post

by The New Pundit

I should go to that site to get all of my material. It has been less than a week since I discussed the propaganda that was written about the JFK plot. Well, not only is there more of it straight from the Huff herself, but there are no less than two articles in support of Saddam Hussein. Yes, I said Saddam Hussein. It seems that they are not aware of the fact that the man is dead. Two articles at the Post are making a bad attempt at smearing Mitt Romney, while showing support for the former terrorist regime of Hussein. They are in addition to an article from Arianna explaining to us that the JFK plotters were not an actual threat because they did not have the financing or the weapons. Arianna, they didn't get the financing or the weapons because they were arrested before they could get these things accomplished. Just so you know, it is a bit more difficult to get this accomplished because of the fact that the NSA intercepts telephone communications from known terrorist organizations overseas. And their plan to blow up the pipeline could have been greatly improved upon once they made contact with monetary resources. While searching for the resources, they could have easily run across people who would have had more knowledge on the science needed to take out the entire pipeline. But we don’t expect someone like yourself to actually thank the authorities for preventing this disaster.

But I made enough mention of the JFK plot in another post. Today I want to talk about the Saddam supporters. Apparently Mitt made some crazy remark about Saddam kicking out UN weapons inspectors, and that it was this action that led to the war. Now I know what you are thinking, you are thinking that Saddam did in fact kick weapons inspectors out of Iraq multiple times from 1997 to 2002. Well, according to Larry Beinhart and Paul Begaga, you are absolutely wrong. You are living in a mad, mad world and stepping in shit.

Now I'm sure that if they were called out, they would try to clarify by stating that they were mostly referring to the fact that Saddam did in fact let inspectors back into the country in 2002. But they would need a lot of clarification because they both intentionally try to get around exactly what happened. They fail to mention how many times in 2002 Iraq rejected UN resolutions regarding inspections. They fail to mention how the inspectors were treated when they were allowed into the country. They fail to mention that Saddam and his thugs did everything possible to keep the inspectors at bay. They pay no attention to the timeline leading up to the liberation of Iraq from a terrorist regime led by Saddam and his two child raping brats. Well, ok, only one of his brats was constantly raping children.

In March 2002, Iraqi officials met with UN officials for the first time since 1998. This is done only after President Bush talks about Iraq in his 2002 SOTU address. UN officials fail to win the return of inspectors at this meeting or the two meeting that occur in May and July. It is not until September of 2002 that Saddam sends a letter to the UN allowing inspections, and even then he does not agree to the rules until October.

In January 2003 Hans Blix filed an update with the UN. In it he describes a lack of cooperation from the Iraqi government that includes actual harassment of the inspectors by Iraqi government officials. He mentions that he is not being given access to interview 3,100 different scientists to fill in gaps from missing records. He mentions the fact that numerous weapons and chemical agents remain unaccounted for. This list includes 1,000 tons of chemical agents from the Iraq-Iran war, 6,500 chemical rockets, 8,500 liters of anthrax, and 650kg of bacterial growth. He finds that Iraq possesses thiodiglycol, a precursor of mustard gas. Iraq had been developing missiles that went beyond the range allowed by sanctions. And to finish things off, they found that 380 rocket engines were smuggled into Iraq the previous month with chemicals used for missile propellants and control systems. This means that as late as December 2002, Iraq was creating and smuggling the very weapons they were not allowed to possess. For those keeping score, this is in fact the part of the justification for the war.

There is something here that is very important, and I don’t want anyone to miss it. Bush stepped up pressure on Iraq in January of 2002. This was after many years of a massive run-around effort by Iraq. Iraq finally decides to 'comply' with the UN in September 2002, and even then still has to be forced to give the small amount of cooperation that it gave. Iraq only makes this announcement after meeting with UN officials in March, May and July. Iraq is aware by this time that Bush is not going to tolerate further noncompliance after 9-11. Iraq knows that Bush is going to attack. Yet with this knowledge, they still drag their feet. What happened in those months?

According to former Iraqi General Georges Sada, Saddam had refitted commercial jets transport WMDs from Iraq to Syria in June 2002. These jets were pretending to fly aid to Syrian flood victims. Let me make sure this is loud and clear. Iraq sent aid to Syria. Iraq had been in a humanitarian crisis since the invasion of Kuwait. UN sanctions prevented other countries from providing food and medicine to the poor. I'm sure you all remember the big stink that was made for so many years about how the evil U.S. was killing Iraqi children by not allowing this food and medicine. But Iraq somehow has the ability to send aid to Syria? This flood killed about 20 people and took out a small amount of farmland. Saddam, being the humanitarian we all know, sent aid to this country despite the fact that he could not take care of his own people. Yeah, I buy that. The general talks about this in his book Saddam's Secrets.

The reason Saddam had kicked out inspectors so many times over the years was because he was in fact trying to re-arm his country. Inspectors had a 4 year long absence from 1998 to 2002 which allowed Saddam to build that list that I mentioned earlier. He also used this time to shoot at jets that were inspecting the no fly zones. He used oil money to fund Palestinian suicide bombers and line the pockets of UN officials. After realizing that George Bush was no Bill Clinton, he then stalled just long enough to hide his weapons in Syria in an attempt to make it appear that he was complying. He assumed that this would buy him enough influence to avert an invasion. Hindsight tells us that he assumed wrong.

Hindsight has also told us about Saddam's plans. It has told us that he was using the oil-for-food scandal to buy influence with the UN. After all of the information we now have regarding this scandal, can we safely say that he was not using his cash to influence the inspectors who were there in early 2003? Hindsight tells us that he was building alliances with Palestinian thugs and the terrorist regime of Syria and using funds from smuggled oil to do so. It tells us that he gave safe haven to terrorists like Abu Musab al-Zarqawi, the Jordanian national who had ties to Al-Qaeda long before the invasion. While I’m at it, I will also mention that hindsight tells us that the AP reported no less than two separate attacks on our troops that included IEDs created from looted chemical weapons in 2003. Hindsight tells us quite a bit about Saddam's regime, maybe the writers for the Huff should subscribe to the History Channel.

So before you accuse Mitt Romney of stepping in shit or living in a mad, make-believe world, you should try this little thing known as research. You should take a look at the timeline. You should take a look at Saddam’s intentions. Failure to do so makes it appear that you support people like Saddam, former terrorist thug.

Run Fred Run, But Will Newt Run With You?

Newt Gingrich recently told Diane Sawyer that there was a great possibility that he would run for president. He said sometime last year that he would run if he felt that there was no other strong candidate in the GOP. He seemed to infer that he would run if he thought there was no one strong enough to stop Hillary. Well, there is someone strong enough to beat her; the problem that that someone is Barack Obama.

Newt has been setting himself up for a run for quite some time. He has been very active in politics. You can read his articles at Human Events. He is pretty regular on FoxNews. He has been very active in working for health care reform and has even given testimony in front of Congress on changes that could be made to lower costs for the poorest of Americans without raising taxes. His book, "Winning the Future: A 21st Century Contract with America" is great. If he were able to implement everything in that book while wisely conducting the War on Terror, he would easily go down as one of the greats. He would have to get everything past Congress of course. He is very vocal regarding immigration and the need to secure the border, a hot topic issue with conservatives, and with many liberals also.

So, the problem is this thing with an ex-wife. His past indiscretions are seen as a huge roadblock. Conservatives see it as a betrayal of core values, and liberals see him as a hypocrite for going after Clinton. Granted, Newt didn't commit perjury, so the liberals have little to stand on. But they are convinced that Clinton did nothing wrong, and they won't let facts get in the way of their agenda. Conservatives take issue with Newt because some are concerned that one who cheats on his wife will cheat on his country.

All this aside, Newt is a potential candidate who has been neck and neck with another undeclared potential candidate. Fred Thompson and Newt have both been running 3rd and 4th in the GOP presidential candidate polls despite the fact that they have not declared. Fred is seen by many as the "Reagan" candidate, but probably because they have both been in movies. Fred has quite a bit of support from people who like his attitude, even if they don't know a lot about where he stands and what he would accomplish. He did a great job of making Michael Moore look like a buffoon and has had much to say about things like taxes, security, and immigration. All of this added to his popularity means that he could probably beat Hillary if she ran with Obama as her running mate in the showdown.

So this begs the question, does Newt step aside if Fred declares, say June 12 on the Tonight Show? If Fred runs, many think he will win. The thought is that he fills the gaps left by the current field, and he doesn't have the Newt baggage. Newt wants to run, he wants to be the President of the United States. He wants to prevent another Clinton administration, but he wants to be in the White House for more than that. He has great ideas and can do some good for the country. But can he beat Fred? If Fred keeps this popularity running, and announces soon, he may be unstoppable.

There are issues with the current field. Rudy, the current front runner, won't tell us his real thoughts on abortion. He has the best leadership, but won't get the religious voters. McCain hasn't figured out that conservatives are opposed to amnesty. Romney could be the come-from-behind-to-win guy, and if he wins the primaries, has the potential to steal votes from the democratic candidates. But many don't trust him on abortion, and Baptists think Mormonism is a cult. The other candidates just aren't popular enough. Some of them have good messages, they simply haven't expressed them the way American's like to hear them expressed.

Beating the democrats may be more necessary now than ever before. The Democratic Party has no idea that we are at war. The Republican Party has sold out on too many issues and looks more corrupt every day. There are terrorists looking to sneak nukes across wide open borders. The Republican sell-out handed Congress to the likes of Pelosi, Reid, and Murtha. It could hand the White House to Hillary, Obama, or Edwards. Our country cannot afford to let this happen. We are at war regardless of our inability to accept it and a democratic President will back down in the War on Terror.

This leaves a great opportunity for someone who is very popular, and very conservative, to jump in and take the primaries. Newt and Fred are both waiting for conservatives to get tired of the flip-flops and bad answers in the debates. But I don’t think that Newt can beat Fred, and I think Newt knows it. If Fred announces, Newt may wait it out to see what happens and possibly run the next time around.

I do have an alternative though. What do you think of Thompson/Gingrich 2008?

Can Ron Paul Win a 'Scientific' Poll, or Just the Online Polls?

Much has been said online, places like digg and prisonplanet, that Ron Paul is destroying the other candidates in the polls. Interestingly, he only seems to be winning the online polls.

LGF has the story about Prisonplanet's piece claiming that there is no way to fake online polling because they register your IP address. Really guys? This is from one of the websites that claims Bush orchestrated 9-11. Bush managed to cover up 9-11, but Ron Paul supporters can't download one of the thousands of IP programs that allow you to use one of the many proxy servers that are connected to hide your IP address? I'm not buying it kids. Now, I'm only guessing here about those proxy programs of course, I don't have one on my computer. Well, not at the moment. And if you ask me if I have ever had one, I will plead the 5th, being a strict Constitutionalist and all.

Real Clear Politics has run the numbers, and it shows Giuliani to be on top of the polls right now. This is from a combination of a large number of telephone polls from different organizations. If Ron Paul is the clear winner in both debates, why is he only at about 1% in the polls right now? And before you start on the conspiracy theories, allow me to give you one of my own. The conspiracy lies with those who support Ron Paul. You are going online and voting multiple times for him, and if need be, using easy access to proxy servers to hide your IP address. Either my theory is right, or none of you people own telephones. I will be the first to say that I am not a big fan of poll numbers, but how do you explain the huge discrepancy? The best number I have seen yet for Ron Paul in any non-online poll is 3%.

I know that you have a theory to retort. I know you will spout off that Ron Paul is being left out of the polls on purpose, or some other nonsense. But here's the deal. Conspiracy theories are not going to get Ron Paul into the White House. Conspiracy theories aren't going to help our country. Conspiracy theories just make the rest of us think that you are all nuts. I happen to agree with Paul on many things regarding using the Constitution as the litmus test. I love the Constitution and spent 5 years under oath to defend it. I would still pick up a gun to defend it if need be. I absolutely love the fact that lobbyists stay far and away from Paul's office, knowing that he will shoot them down. We need more of that attitude in D.C. I disagree with his stance on isolationism because we exist in a day and age where technology keeps us too tightly knit. But that is a completely different piece that I am not getting into at the moment. The issue I am bringing up here is that people see through this internet escapade. Those who don’t see through it are the ones who don't use the internet that much, so they only see the media polls. This means Ron Paul gets nowhere near the White House. This means you are all wasting your time promoting yet another ridiculous conspiracy that needs to be put down. Do something constructive like supporting border security.

I'm Sure This Will Work Just Fine

From FoxNews

WASHINGTON — Republicans and Democrats were nearing a deal Tuesday on a sweeping immigration overhaul that would give millions of illegal immigrants a chance at legal status but strictly limit future arrivals from staying in the U.S.

The proposed agreement would allow illegal immigrants to come forward and obtain a probationary "Z visa" and — after paying fees and fines of up to $5,000 and returning to their home countries — ultimately try for permanent residency, which could take between eight and 13 years. The process couldn't begin until border security improvements and a high-tech worker identification program were completed.

Angry editors note.

Oh sure, this will work. We will just tell the people who are already here illegally to go home and come back later. I'm sure that they will jump right in, pay all their fines, and go back to Mexico for 8 years.

This is what we call "Legislation for legislation's sake"

Congress has no right discussing immigration reform until AFTER they properly secure the border and complete the process of removing as many illegal aliens as possible.

The end of the article quotes Trent Lott as saying we need immigration reform, but he doesn't want to pass a bad bill. Hey Trent, how about Congressional reform instead? You didn't learn anything last year when the angry Republicans decided not to show up and vote? Secure the border. Stop letting illegals and terrorists into our country.

The Politics of Fear and the Fort Dix Six

How many times have you been watching or listening to a left wing pundit when they accuse the right of fear mongering? It happens quite a bit, I have even heard it at work. Very little media coverage went into three separate terrorist leaders thanking the US for installing a democratic majority. When I pointed out the very obscure articles to a co-worker he accused the writers of fear mongering. When the Administration defends its perfectly Constitutional program of listening to phone calls made by foreign terrorists, it is accused of fear mongering. When the Administration tells of attacks that have been prevented because of the Patriot Act, it is accused of fear mongering. I have seen countless articles claiming that the attacks of 911 are being used as an excuse to take away our liberties, one big plot by the government to play big bother.

So how do those who accuse the government of fear mongering explain the recent FBI arrests of Muslim terrorists bent on attacking an Army base? I would also like to know how CAIR explains it, but I’ll get to that in a moment. I am going to preempt an argument real quick. I know that it won’t be long before we are told that this was baseless because these guys were young and not very smart. They weren’t connected to Al Qaeda; they were acting alone, blah, blah, blah. Guess what everyone; this is part of their handbook. Al Qaeda targets the stupid to do this work. How smart do you have to be to attack an Army base with 6-12 people? How smart do you have to be to blow yourself up in the middle of a playground or machete off the head of a journalist? They don’t have to be smart to kill. They knew that they would be captured or killed and were willing to die because they are too stupid to realize that Allah has forsaken them.

The democrats are trying to push a bill that will turn Iraq over to Al Qaeda. They have stripped DC of the term “Global War on Terror,” believing that it doesn’t exist. Along with some republicans, they want to help terrorists sneak across our southern border. They continue to challenge everything that the administration is doing to prevent these kinds of attacks. Indeed, if one John Doe had not told the FBI last year of the info he saw on a tape, this attack may have happened. Despite the fact that our current system wasn’t good enough to get these guys without civilian help, the left wants to tie the hands of those responsible for preventing terrorism even more than they are already tied. They continue to tie the hands of the government, all the time crying “politics of fear,” as though no one actually wants to kill us.

These men are Muslims who said that they were planning this attack in the name of Allah. Mohamad Shnewer was quoted as saying, "My intent is to hit a heavy concentration of soldiers. You hit four, five or six Humvees and light the whole place and retreat completely without any losses.” “It doesn't matter to me whether I get locked up, arrested or get taken away. Or I die, it doesn't matter. I'm doing it in the name of Allah," said Serdar Tatar. But CAIR doesn’t want us to equate their actions with religion. “But when the government says ‘Islamic militants,’ it sends a message to the public that Islam and militancy are synonymous,” says Sohail Mohammed.

Americans simply refuse to acknowledge the reality of the Global War on Terror. We refuse to acknowledge that it is global, that it involves radical Muslims, that they are all over the planet, and that they are here in the US. This is a movement that has stoned 12 year old girls because they were raped, beheaded children for going to a Christian school, lined a school building in Iraq with explosives, murdered 17,000 civilians in Iraq, and oh yeah, they flew airplanes into the twin towers some years back. They have done these things in the name of Allah, but we aren’t supposed to equate anything or jump to any conclusions. And don’t you dare profile the men praying to Allah just before they jump on board an airplane.

This attack was planned by Albanian Muslims, some of whom were in this country illegally. It’s time for a history quiz. Who can tell me why there are so many Albanian Muslims near Fort Dix? Give up? We brought them here after our soldiers and Marines were killed protecting them. Fort Dix was the home to thousands of Kosovo refugees who were brought here after that ethnic cleansing fiasco that happened years ago. It appears that some of them invited their relatives to sneak over later. By the way, we are bringing Iraqi refugees over here now. How long before the next attack? We save them, then not only allow them to move here but we flip the bill. They repay us by plotting to kill the people who sacrificed to free them from the regime that was trying to exterminate them. Is anyone starting to wonder if preventing the ethic cleansing was a good idea?

Maybe that last sentence was a bit harsh, but this idea that we are not at war with radical Muslims drives me up the wall. I have to dig deep to find Muslims who will speak out against this kind of violence. CAIR has a petition against violence on their site, yet half their founders were linked to terrorist groups. Why didn’t Sohail Mohammed tell the world about this petition after telling us not to blame Muslims for this attempted attack? Why do we hear more about how evil our government is for arresting Muslims than we hear about denouncing terrorism?

This isn’t about fear. George Bush isn’t using this as an agenda piece so that he can sit in the Oval Office listening to you talk to a phone sex operator. This is happening because a world-wide group of religious extremists are able to communicate more effectively. They get ideas off of internet chat rooms and forums. They have been killing for centuries, but now we have the internet. This makes them more effective at killing while allowing them to spread propaganda that shields them. They actually use the internet to spread their message of hate, to teach each other how to carry out attacks, while at the same time convincing us and the rest of the world that they are peaceful and misunderstood. How long will it take us to realize that they are lying to us?

It's always our fault

Soldiers in Cuba hijacked a US bound plane in an attempt to flee their country Thursday. MSNBC has the story. The Interior Ministry blamed US policies that encourage Cubans to emigrate to the US and Washington's tolerance of violence against Cuba.

It's our fault that we are better than you? To be honest, it isn't difficult to be better than Cuba. If I owned an island somewhere, it would be better than Cuba on accident.

I have seen a million ‘blame the USA’ stories the past decade or so. But to blame us when your own people try to escape from your country? How do they think this stuff up, and how do they get the balls to say it?

“The responsibility for these new crimes lies with the highest-ranking authorities of the United States, adding to the long list of terrorist acts that Cuba has been the victim of for nearly half a century,” the ministry statement on Thursday said.

Let me get this straight. Your soldiers hijack a plane in an attempt to get the hell away from you, so you accuse the US of terrorism. Our crazy policies like freedom and capitalism turn your people into terrorists?

The good news is that someone did have something to say that wasn’t completely insane. Frank Calzon, head of the Center for a Free Cuba told the AP that this was due to increased frustration with Castro by Cuban youth.
“The level of desperation of young Cubans is at an all-time high because the Cubans in both Cuba and off the island were hoping that the rule of Mr. Castro would come to an end. People can put up with a lot of things as long as they think things will get better.
“I am afraid there will be more bloodshed in Cuba if the regime does not take more steps to deal with the growing unrest. That’s not necessarily to give up power, but there are some things the regime could do overnight such as allow those Cubans with money to patronize the hotels, clinics and restaurants set aside for foreigners.”

The Veto Pen

Sometimes the pen used to sign a document in DC has something to it. I'm not certain of the history of the pen used by Pelosi yesterday to sign the "Surrender to al Qaeda Bill", but I did catch an interesting fact about the pen Bush used to veto the bill.

The pen was given to Bush by Robert Derga. Robert spoke to the President at the white house two weeks ago. He asked Bush to promise to use this pen for the veto, and yesterday, called Bush to remind him to use the pen.

Robert Derga is the father of Cpl. Dustin Derga. The 24-year-old Dustin Derga served with Lima Company, 3rd Battalion 25th Marines from Columbus, Ohio. He was killed in Iraq May 8, 2005 by an armor-piercing round.

Dustin was a reservist who before deployment served as a volunteer fireman while going to school for paramedic and fire science. He was killed during Operation Matador, a large scale operation on the Syrian border where insurgents from other countries were entering Iraq. No one knew that the town of Ubaydi had been overrun by insurgents. Since the town was full of civilians, they could not bomb the town and had to conduct house-to-house searches. They found no one until the last house. The door was reinforced which made it impossible to enter. Suddenly, armor piercing bullets ripped through the walls of the house. He was evacuated and died on the surgeon's table.

March 24th, 2006 Robert Derga had this to say, "The battle is not over. It's a war on terrorism. The terrorists are still there. If we don't stay, they will be back again. They're not going to give up. We shouldn't either." Robert gave these words alongside 20 Ohio military families who have lost relatives in the war on terrorism while they announced the formation of Ohio Families United, a group that works to publicize progress in Iraq and support the troops. The group is a chapter of the national group Families United for Our Troops, which connects military families, including Gold and Blue Star members, and veterans.

“He always had a great smile on his face. All the guys in Dustin’s unit said he was always making them laugh. He wasn’t the most ‘squared away’ Marine, but he had a passion for the Corps and was proud to be a Marine. Dustin really respected his brothers in the unit and he tried to have a good time with his comrades even under the worst of conditions.”

This is how you veto a bill of surrender.

How Green of the democratic candidates

According to an AP report by Jim Kuhnhenn, the DNC went green for their first debate of the political season. And when I say they went green, I mean they spent a ton of cash.
They all took separate flights, none of which were commercial. They didn’t pool, they didn’t share.

Now Jim goes on to discuss the different rules regarding how much of the money has to be paid by the candidates when they charter. But I’m more concerned about the emissions.

One of the raving issues amongst these raving candidates is Global Warming. Yet they all flew separately, no one went commercial. They chartered their flights, I’m guessing they wanted to be alone to write up their answers to possible questions. Not that this makes much sense really. I mean, how different were their statements? Bush is bad. War is bad. I’ll end this war. Bush can end the way with a stroke of his pen. Global warming is, uh, bad too which is why everyone should sacrifice expect me. I mean, the anti-Bush mantra worked so well in 2004, might as well try it again. I’m sure they all talked about universal health care too. By the way, did you guys know that Kucinich owns a gun? Isn’t owning a gun a pretext to shooting someone Mr. Kucinich?

So how do we explain this? How is it that the candidates from the party doing all the talk about global warming can’t even fly commercial or maybe just share a chartered jet? Better yet, why not just have all the debate in D.C.? That would save all sorts of emission!

I do need to make one correction. I am wrong on one point and I do apologize. Not everyone chartered a private flight to the debate. Biden refused to charter a flight. He has his own jet and doesn’t need to charter.

Have you been called a Traitor?

Are you a traitor because you object to the war? Are you a traitor because you disagree with the President? Are you a traitor because you question the strategy or the tactics used in the war?

The answer is simple, the answer is no. And guess what, no one, not one person, has ever said otherwise.

No one who supports the mission of the war in Iraq has ever called someone a traitor simply because they have a difference of opinion. Not one person who supports the mission has ever questioned the patriotism of anyone who thinks we should not be in Iraq. It simply has not happened. Have we called people traitors? Of course we have. Have we questioned the patriotism of the anti-war crowd? You bet we have. But we have not done so for the above reasons. And it is now time to set the record straight.

Debate is healthy. No one denies this. If we don’t debate, we make bad decisions. But there is something missing from the overwhelming majority of the objections to this war. That something is honesty. If you would all band together and honestly debate the issue, we could all get along. We could even figure out how to quickly end this war. But I don’t think that ending the war is the actual objective of most. I don’t think it is the objective based upon the accusations I have seen and heard.

Before I go on, I have to clear something. I have to clear up the WMD issue, and whether or not lies were told regarding WMDs to start a war. First, intelligence agencies from multiple countries were claiming that Saddam was in clear violation of UN sanctions regarding chemical and biological weapons. There is no doubt at all that various intelligence agencies were making this claim. They were making this claim long before Bush was sworn into office. US lawmakers from the Democratic Party were repeating these claims as late as 2002. The website snopes.com has a list of the various statements made by many of them. Since the invasion, the Duelfer reports demonstrated that Saddam was making every effort to use the Oil for Food program to buy his way out of the UN sanctions so that he could reinstate his weapons programs without issue. Saddam was consistently tossing UN inspectors from his country as though he had something to hide. Iraqi General Georges Sada has told the US that Saddam was able to fly much of the material out of the country to Syria in the weeks prior to the invasion. There are also reports speculating that some materials were looted due to lax supervision during the invasion.

All this means one very important thing. Bush did NOT lie to start this war. It is possible that every intelligence agency in the world was dead wrong. It is also very possible, and much more likely, that Saddam was able to move much of the evidence before we attacked.

Now I can move back to the topic of debate. With the above knowledge, you cannot expect anyone who supports the mission to consider you to be serious when you spout the statement, “Bush lied, soldiers died.” You cannot expect this because it simply is not true. If the first thing out of your mouth is “Bush is a liar” then the first thing out of my mouth will be to accuse you of supporting the enemy. See how that works? You make a stupid statement, I respond with something that actually has some bearing. My statement has bearing because your statement is actually being repeated by the likes of Al Jazeera and other propaganda sites used by the enemy.

I will now give a list of other lies that are constantly being called “debate” by those who oppose Bush.

"And there is no reason, Bob, that young American soldiers need to be going into the homes of Iraqis in the dead of night, terrorizing kids and children, you know, women, breaking sort of the customs of the, of, the historical customs, religious customs."
Ok, there really is not reason for US troops to be terrorizing kids, that part is true. What is the lie here is the accusation. US troops were not terrorizing kids. But John Kerry would never let facts get in his way.

"Shamefully we now learn that Saddam's torture chambers reopened under new management, U.S. management."
Ted Kennedy accuses US Troops of putting innocent civilians through meat grinders.

"There was no firefight. There was no IED (improvised explosive device) that killed those innocent people. Our troops overreacted because of the pressure on them. And they killed innocent civilians in cold blood. That is what the report is going to tell."
That was John Murtha falsely accusing US Marines of murder. We now know that there is evidence coming to light that there was indeed a firefight and that the Marines did exactly what they were supposed to do.

Reid not only said the war was lost, he falsely accused General Petraeus of claiming the war was a lost cause. Multiple congress members have falsely accused the President of lying to start the war. Multiple congress members have falsely said we are losing.

Here are the other lies that I hear constantly:
The troops are spread too thin.
The troops don’t want to be there.
It’s worse in Iraq than it was with Saddam.
The people of Iraq were happier under Saddam.
There was no clear cut mission.

It goes on for a while. We do have the ability to use the military to deal with other countries. There are thousands of blogs online right now written by Marines and Soldiers who know that they are fighting for freedom. Poll after poll says that Iraqis feel their lives are better now than under Saddam. They don’t want US forces in their country, but they don’t want the forces to leave until the insurgents are killed. We have always had a clear cut mission in Iraq; the President has repeated this message so many times I couldn’t possibly keep track.

I’m not asking for much here, just honesty. I already know the responses that I will get to this article. I will be called a sheep. I will be told that Bush lied. I will get some stupid statements about being part of the Rush and Coulter cult. What I won’t get much of will be honesty. In fact, many of the arguments I have already shot down will simply be repeated by people who cannot be convinced of the truth.

Back to the traitor thing. There are multiple counts of the terrorists who are killing our troops and killing children claiming that they don’t expect to beat the US military in a fight. They know they can’t win. They have no delusions of grandeur. They have said over and over again that what keeps them going is the knowledge that the US will not have the stomach to endure. They know that they can effectively use the media’s coverage of suicide attacks upon school children to destroy the will of the American people. This is their goal. They have repeated the same lies I have mentioned above in this effort. The people fighting on the ground have told us time and time again that the words of surrender by people like Harry Reid are killing them. They are begging Washington to stop using them as pawns in their political struggle.
The now infamous Marine, Corporal Tyler Rock said it well, “i am a marine in iraq that isnt getting the support from a senator that should support his fellow americans. when was the last time he was here. what does he know about us “losing” besides what he wants to believe. the truth is that we are pushing al qaeda out and we are pushing the insurgency out. we are here to support a nation.”
And 1stLt Matthew McGirr USMC: “The pundits and politicians on both sides do not fully grasp the conditions on the ground here. They are arrogantly and irresponsibly using this war and the troops who fight in it for political gain and election currency. They manipulate the truth or do not care enough to seek it out. At least I know where I stand with the citizens of Ar Ramadi.”

This is why we use words like “treason” and “traitor” when we talk of Kennedy, Pelosi and others. This is why we continue to tell you that we want debate, but we want honest debate. We don’t want propaganda. Not only is this propaganda being used to gain power in Washington, it is being used to kill our men and women.

Why won't the dems talk to Gen Petraeus?

I know that the democrats hate the military, but this is rediculous.
Earlier this year, top Democrats in both houses of Congress refused to attend a bipartisan briefing offered by General David Petraeus to discuss the challenges in Iraq. Next week they’ll have another chance when the General comes to Capitol Hill to brief lawmakers in the House and Senate on our progress in the Global War on Terror.
General Petraeus was unanimously confirmed by the United States Senate to be the U.S. commander of the Multinational Force in Iraq. He has a clear track record as a straight-shooter and as someone who gets things done. So one has to wonder why next week’s important briefing almost didn’t happen. According to Roll Call, when the Pentagon tried to schedule the briefing through House Democrats they were declined – twice – because Democrats were originally “too busy” to schedule anything.

Punks on Capitol Hill

I have no more respect for Alberto Gonzales. I have no respect for the republicans who rebuked him. And Pat Leahy, who runs the Judiciary Committee, has no respect for the law.

In what appeared to be a WWE pay-per-view, white trash protesters armed with signs and low IQs were allowed to scream and yell during a hearing on Capitol Hill. Granted, the fact that this hearing was even taking place is a direct violation of the Constitution. So I guess I'm not that surprised to find out that a bunch of pathetic morons were allowed to roam around the room while the hearing took place.

A number of accusations were tossed at Gonzales, yet not one person had the ability to produce evidence of any kind of violation. Not one. The fact that there was no evidence of any kind of violation leads any intelligent person to believe that this is yet another in a long list of treasonous attacks upon the President during a time of war. Treason is punishable by death. Gonzales is required by the Constitution of the United States to arrest everyone of those idiotic punks who questioned him. They are to be tried for treason. The fact that he refuses to carry out this duty angers every person in the US who actually cares for their country.

At the very least, he should have limited his answers to one brief statement. "Members of the Committee, under the law, U.S. attorneys are hired and fired by the president; no public or private explanation is needed. You can all go fuck yourselves"

Death and taxes, and cheating on one of them.

There is discussion between the Treasury and the Senate on the issue of the Tax Gap. The gap is the difference between taxes owed and taxes actually paid. The IRS estimated that the difference in 2001 was $345 billion, mostly due to underreported income.

Now, when I say taxes owed, I am of course using the definition put forth by law. I am not going to tell you that you owe the government a certain amount of money simply because the government says so. I certainly don’t feel that I owe what I pay each year considering the amount that is wasted on Alaskan bridges. I also don’t think I owe the government any money for health care since I pay a good amount of money to provide health insurance for my family. I realize that some people don’t have insurance, but to date no one has explained to me how this means I owe them something.
To clarify, when I say taxes owed, I’m talking about what the government claims is owed. It is a significant amount each year that is estimated at over $2 trillion since 2001. In fact, the amounts each year are very similar to the federal budget deficit and would probably cover that gap.

There are two thoughts coming from up above. U.S. Treasury Secretary Henry Paulson said "I have come to the conclusion that there is a big part of the tax gap we simply won't be able to reach without adding draconian and painful requirements on all taxpayers." One idea he was given was to actually require individuals to report transactions with service providers like doctors and mechanics who may not properly report their fees. He believes that this and other ideas are bad ones that cause undue strain of the people who do pay their tax requirements. The IRS claims that this is about 84% of us.

What does the senate say? Senate Finance Committee chairman Sen. Max Baucus of Montana said failing to collect taxes that are owed "breeds disrespect for the law" and needs to be dealt with quickly.

Both men may be correct. It may be too costly to fill the gap. At the same time, if nothing is done the gap would grow and the revenues would not be collected. This would put a horrible strain on the Senators who rely on your tax dollars to fund their pork projects that help them get re-elected. It also hurts things like military readiness and the intelligence agencies that are working to prevent another 9-11.

Paulson did make a radical suggestion to help close the gap, so radical and extreme that I have to assume it will never see the light of day. He suggested a simplification of the tax code. I know, I laughed too. He claims that this would help to reduce honest mistakes and would help give cheats fewer places to hide.

We are still waiting Ms Pelosi

It seems like only yesterday that President Bush was pushing his ideas on reforming Social Security. He was accused of course of pushing these ideas because he is a backwards hick looking to use Social Security reform to somehow line the pockets of his corporate buddies. Please pay no attention whatsoever to the absolute fact that his real reason was the decades of begging by the Social Security administration to reform the system. While doing research for a Financial Planning firm back in 1999, I had the chance to read several reports that the SS admin had been sending to Congress on an annual basis. These reports all had the same conclusion. They concluded that without serious reform, the SS system would start running a deficit sometime between 2015 and 2020 and would be in serious debt by the middle of the century.

When Bush first took office, he assembled a bi-partisan group to head over to the SS office and do some investigating. You would be shocked at what they discovered and soon told the President. They told him that according to the math, the SS system would start running a deficit sometime between 2015 and 2020 and would be in serious debt by the middle of the century. In an act of great stupidity, Tom Daschle went before the world decrying the report and accused Bush of trying to scare the country. He of course made no mention of the fact that the report was identical to the same report he had received from the SS admin every year for at least a decade.

After being re-elected, Bush made SS reform a goal. He put forth a variety of ideas and mentioned his desire to help maintain solvency in his SOTU address. There were two points of interest in his address. First, his concerns regarding the future of the system and his idea to use the stock market sounded very similar to Bill Clinton in his 1999 SOTU address. To quote: “Today, Social Security is strong, but by 2013, payroll taxes will no longer be sufficient to cover monthly payments. By 2032, the trust fund will be exhausted and Social Security will be unable to pay the full benefits older Americans have been promised. The best way to keep Social Security a rock solid guarantee is not to make drastic cuts in benefits; not to raise payroll tax rates; not to drain resources from Social Security in the name of saving it. Instead, I propose that we make the historic decision to invest the surplus to save Social Security. Specifically, I propose that we commit 60 percent of the budget surplus for the next 15 years to Social Security, investing a small portion in the private sector just as any private or state government pension would do. This will earn a higher return and keep Social Security sound for 55 years.”

The second thing I find interesting about the Bush SOTU address was that the same democrats who cheered Bill Clinton’s words, actually booed Bush. That’s right, two presidents said the same thing, the democrats cheered one and booed the other.

Don’t worry, it gets worse. Nancy Pelosi, the current House speaker and pretty much the most powerful democrat in DC at the moment, took to the streets decrying Bush and his want for reform. She and Reid stood united to oppose the President. It wasn’t long before we even saw attack ads on the television from the AARP telling us not to fix something that isn’t broken and that his plan was too risky for seniors. By the way, this is the same AARP that makes tens of millions every year by investing the insurance premiums of seniors into stocks and bonds. Pelosi was asked time after time when the democrats would be putting forth their plan to fix Social Security. She of course answered each time by telling us that the plan would be revealed soon enough and that her main focus was making sure Bush didn’t ruin things by creating private accounts. She of course knew that private accounts would ruin everything if the private accounts were set up the way the democrats described them. Never mind the fact that the description given by the democrats was the EXACT OPPOSITE of what the President was calling for. Bush was calling for accounts that mimicked Thrift Accounts that are used by federal employees. They are a mix of low risk stocks and bonds that have outpaced inflation and actually made gains despite market corrections and recessions. But let’s not get into the technical aspects here as it just makes the entire thing more confusing. Let’s continue moving forward, shall we?

Let’s fast forward to 2006. Bush is delivering another SOTU address. Here is a portion of the transcript. “Congress did not act last year on my proposal to save Social Security -- (applause) -- yet the rising cost of entitlements is a problem that is not going away. (applause) And every year we fail to act, the situation gets worse.”

The democrats stood to applaud their refusal to even try to help this failing system. Hillary Clinton was the focus of the camera, applauding with a huge smile on her face. I had no idea she was so happy that the country was heading to financial ruin.

Anyways. Here we are, 2007, the Democrats are in control of Congress. Pelosi, who back in 2005 assured us that her plan to help Social Security was soon to be revealed, still hasn’t revealed her plan to help save Social Security. I might add that I have not heard any ideas from Reid or Clinton either. Obama, are you there? Any ideas sir?

What makes me curious is that not only did they oppose his ideas to help, they never offered their own. In fact, Bush asked on more than one occasion for help from the democrats, and they simply refused. Now, if one has an IQ higher than say, 8, one might think that their refusal was politically motivated. One might think that they used this as an opportunity to scare people into believing that Bush was trying to ruin their sacred retirement fund. One might even think that it started a process that helped them take control of the Congress and may help them take back the White House. Of course, they wont do anything to help fix the broken system, but at least they will be in charge.

Petition to investigate Nancy Pelosi for violation of the Logan Act

To: Office of the Attorney General
Resolution to the Office of the Attorney General to investigate the Speaker of the House, Nancy Pelosi for violation of the Logan Act.

The Logan Act initiated by President John Adams in 1798 states the following:
Any citizen of the United States, wherever he may be, who, without authority of the United States, directly or indirectly commences or carries on any correspondence or intercourse with any foreign government or any officer or agent thereof, with intent to influence the measures or conduct of any foreign government or of any officer or agent thereof, in relation to any disputes or controversies with the United States, or to defeat the measures of the United States, shall be fined under this title or imprisoned not more than three years, or both.
This section shall not abridge the right of a citizen to apply, himself or his agent, to any foreign government or the agents thereof for redress of any injury which he may have sustained from such government or any of its agents or subjects.

In two separate instances, the USSC has stated that this power of influence belongs to the President of the United States alone.

Congress and Israel to Pelosi - "Shut Up!"

The historical train wreck that is the House Speaker. Historical because Pelosi is the first woman to serve as Speaker of the House. A train wreck because she is trying to negotiate with terrorists by lying to them.

While talking to one of the world's biggest terrorists, Pelosi communicated a message from Prime Minister [Ehmud] Olmert to one of the world's biggest terrorists that Israel was ready to engage in peace talks.

There was one tiny little issue. Olmert never said anything like this to Pelosi. His office issued a statement that seemed to carry a different tune.
Before conducting peace negotiations, the statement said, "Syria must cease its support of terror, cease its sponsoring of the Hamas and Islamic Jihad organizations, refrain from providing weapons to Hizbollah and bringing about the destabilizing of Lebanon, cease its support of terror in Iraq, and relinquish the strategic ties it is building with the extremist regime in Iran."

Back home, a GOP aide was accused of saying that he wished Nancy Pelosi would stay in Washington.

Syrian president Bashar al-Assad is a terrorist. The White House refuses to talk to him because he is a terrorist and will not talk to him until he refrains from acting like a terrorist. Whether this is a sound strategy or not can be debated forever. What cannot be debated is that Pelosi has no business putting a monkey wrench in the foreign policy strategy put forth by the White House. Congress doesn't make foreign policy, the President gets to do that. Negotiating with terrorist nations is not good policy. Telling the planet that the Speaker of the House doesn't care what the President thinks about foreign policy is a horrible idea. She has told the world this week that the United States is not united in its stand against terrorism. Telling a terrorist that the country he is terrorizing is willing to hold peace talks is, well, to be honest, it is exactly what I expected from someone like Nancy Pelosi.

Just for fun, click here and take a look at this wonderful snapshot. Reminds me of the picture of Rumsfeld and Saddam shaking hands back in the 80s. Well, except of course for the fact that Iraq was not on the terrorist list at that time.

Firing of US attorneys and voter fraud

Ok, first things first. Someone please point out the section of the US Constitution that authorizes Congress to investigate the US Attorney General for firing the people he hires. Go look it up, I'll give you a minute.

Done? Great. I'm sure that while you were looking it up, you probably also found the section that says you can't post the Ten Commandments on state property.

US attorneys are hired and fired for their politics as well as their job skills. You may not like it, but this is the way it is. Hillary Clinton discussed this fact while also denying it. "This is a great difference," she said. "When a new president comes in, a new president gets to clean house. It is not done on case-by-case basis where you didn't do something that some senator or member of Congress told you to do in terms of investigation into opponents. It is 'Let's start afresh.' Every president has done that."
The new president cleans house to put people into that house that fit his politics. But the senator didn't mention that part.

Now the claim coming from the mouths of people who incorrectly think that this is a scandal is that these people were fired for lack of loyalty to the administration. Yes, this must be it. Let's get rid of all those people who may be investigating loyal republicans. This would easily explain why Scooter Libby was found guilty of forgetting but Sandy Berger goes free after stealing top-secret national security documents. It would explain why Delay was indicted for something that was not illegal when it happened. It would also explain why a republican war hero named Cunningham sits in prison, while William Jefferson sits on the Homeland Security Committee. For those who aren't keeping score, Jefferson is the guy who had about a hundred grand stashed in his freezer.

By now you are probably wondering what this has to do with voter fraud. Well, according to the Justice Department, at least two of the eight fired attorneys were fired for not pursuing voter fraud with the wanted vigor. Remember voter fraud? It's the issue that the democrats were up in arms over when Gore lost to Bush. They were up in arms yet again when Kerry lost to Bush. Of course, now that they have the majority in the House and Senate, it seems that voter fraud has been cured.

For more on the "scandal" take a look at this article which covers a few more reasons these people were fired. Pay close attention to the change in tone by Dianne Feinstein.

North Carolina Senate Apologizes for Slavery

According to the AP, the North Carolina Senate apologized Thursday for the Legislature's role in promoting slavery and Jim Crow laws.

I had no idea that anyone from the North Carolina Senate owned slaves. I was certain that this has been illegal since 1865. My question is simple. If these people had slaves, why weren't they arrested?

Bad jokes aside, why does this continue to come up in politics? How does it benefit anyone alive today? If you did not commit the act, you cannot apologize for the act. If it did not happen to you, you cannot accept the apology. Lawmakers need to focus on doing their jobs, not passing "feel good" legislation and resolutions.
