The Audacity of the First Amendment
What is worse about Obama’s message today? That he obviously wants to change the US Constitution, or that he thinks we are all stupid?
I want to share with you the email i received from Barack Obama’s Organizing for America.
Douglas –
Yesterday morning, the U.S. Supreme Court ruled that corporations can spend freely in federal elections.
It’s a green light for a new stampede of special interest money in our politics, giving their lobbyists even more power in Washington. Now, every candidate who fights for change could face limitless attacks from corporate special interests like health insurance companies and Wall Street banks.
While the GOP is celebrating a victory for its special interest allies, President Obama is working with leaders in Congress to craft a forceful response that protects the voices of ordinary citizens.

Congress: I support bold action to ensure fair elections.
The Supreme Court decision overturned a 20-year precedent saying that corporations could not pay for campaign ads from their general treasuries. And it struck down a law saying corporations couldn’t buy “issue ads” — which only thinly veil support for or opposition to specific candidates — in the closing days of campaigns.
The result? Corporations can unleash multi-million-dollar ad barrages against candidates who try to curb special interest power, or devote millions to propping up elected officials who back their schemes.
With no limits on their spending, big oil, Wall Street banks, and health insurance companies will try to drown out the voices of everyday Americans — and Republicans seem ecstatic.
While opponents of change in Congress are praising this victory for special interests, President Obama has tasked his administration and Congress with identifying a fix to preserve our democracy — and we need to show that the American people stand with him.

The interesting thing about this letter is of course the very blatant hypocrisy. This is written on behalf of the man who fraudulently claimed he would accept only public financing, then turned around to gather $750 million from the likes of GE and other corporations along with union thugs and extremist groups such as ACORN.
Barack Obama collected hundreds of millions in special interest dollars, yet claims to be fighting against special interests. He claims that big oil, Wall Street, and health insurance companies will drown out the voices of everyday Americans, yet he has uses tax dollars to reward corporations and groups that funded his campaign.
We are aware that this administration wishes to re-write the Constitution. Rahm Emanuel believes the 1st Amendment to be overrated. Mark Lloyd, who is the Chief Diversity Officer at the FCC, believes that the 1st Amendment doesn’t apply to the media or corporations and that the media should be controlled completely by a Chavez type government.
This administration wishes to violate the Constitution by forcing all Americans to purchase a service by threat of imprisonment or fine. Again, this is another broken promise of his campaign. You may remember when John McCain asked Obama about forcing people to purchase insurance during the debate. Obama lashed out and actually embarrassed McCain by claiming that he would do no such thing. But the moment the health care debate began in Congress, he gave his speech saying it was everyone’s responsibility. Constitution be damned.
It is looking like this post has two messages. One is attacking the hypocrisy of Obama, while the other message is attacking him for has hatred of the Constitution. I apologize for not sticking to a subject, but I can’t figure out what makes me more angry about this email. I am angry that the Obama administration takes issue with the Bill of Rights, but I am also angry that this email was written under the assumption that I am too stupid to remember how much Obama caters to his own special interest groups. I am angry that he thinks I have forgotten all of his campaign promises of change and open government. I am angry that Pelosi is actually claiming that the health care debate has displayed historic transparency when they aren’t even allowing Republican lawmakers in the room half the time.
I am angry, and so are most American. The elections this year will make Scott Brown’s win in Massachusetts look like child’s play.
