I mentioned an article about the oil prices in another post. I went back to digg the article at The Hill and found that it had been dugg and that there were some comments. I found one idea very intersting.

If I were the president (God Forbid-LOL !) I would do the following. Immediately sign an executive order ordering the leasing of areas past 7 miles offshore off the east coast, including FLA (The same gulf areas that Cuba has started to contract with China to drill), Open up ANWAR etc. The proceeds from the leases & the revenues from the tax to the oil companies from any foil finds & production would be dedicated to a “Manhattan” style project on Hydrogen power. I would also lease the land on the closed military bases for the building of new refineries. I would make the argument under the presidents power to provide for the national defense. Congress has the power to “Nullify ” the executive order within 90 days. I would immediately make an address to the American people that this is necessary to avoid economic collapse and having our future in the hands of unstable (& some fanatical ) governments and to avoid future conflicts. I would state that if congress nullifies this order, they will have to answer for the dire consequences to the American people. I know it would take 5-10 years for actual production, but I believe this would lower the price of crude in the short-term 20% which is now caused by pure speculation. I know this will never happen but I can dream cant I?
