Barack Obama, Jeremiah Wright, and Racism in America
On the question “Is America ready for a Black President?” I think we need to first ask if Black America is ready for a Black President.
It seems that no one in politics can go five minutes without sticking a foot in the mouth, or without someone else doing it on their behalf. Geraldine Ferraro made a comment about Obama being ahead only because he is black, firmly placing her foot inside Hillary’s mouth. And this week, a few news services finally picked up on what is in fact a very old story about the very racist and anti-American teachings of Rev. Jeremiah Wright, who is the former preacher at Chicago’s Trinity United Church of Christ. He has been Obama’s pastor for 20 years.
You may have noticed that I used the word ‘teachings’ when describing the things Rev. Jeremiah Wright said. The media is trying to pass this off as comments made in the heat of the moment in an effort to sweep it all under the rug. But the reality is that this is the actual philosophy of the former preacher. He believes that the US government created AIDs to kill black people. He believes that the US was responsible for 9-11. And what does he think of white people who have done things to help the black community? To quote, “Hillary is married to Bill, and Bill has been good to us. No he ain’t! Bill did us, just like he did Monica Lewinsky. He was riding dirty.” His church gave a lifetime award to Louis Farrakhan who is known as one of the most racist men in the US today. And pay close attention to the video of Rev. Jeremiah Wright as he bashes Hillary Clinton for being white. This wasn’t a spur of the moment speech, it wasn’t off the cuff. He was reading this from the notes he prepared. He took the time to write this and then repeated it later for his church members. “Barack knows what it means to be a black man living in a country and a culture that is controlled by rich white people. Hillary can never know that. Hillary ain’t never been called a nigger.”
There is another reason it is important that I referred to this as his teachings. Obama has tried to pass this off. He has referred to his preacher as an old uncle who sometimes says things that you don’t believe. Well Barack, I don’t choose my uncles, I do choose what church I go to for 20 long years. Obama stated at the Huffington Post that Americans will judge him “on the basis of who I am and what I believe in…” He misses the point entirely. Where you spend 20 years going to church tells us what you believe in Mr. Senator. Obama also named his book, “The Audacity of Hope” after a sermon given by Rev. Jeremiah Wright.
Obama also says that he never heard the preacher make these remarks, yet in 2006 “Racism is how this country was founded and how this country was run. . . . We believe in white supremacy and black inferiority and believe it more than we believe in God.” Wright was also scheduled to give a public invocation when Obama launched his presidential bid, but this was canceled because Obama knew he needed to distance himself from Wright. If this is something new, why did you take steps to distance yourself from the beginning Mr. Senator?
Obama is claiming that he disagrees with Rev. Jeremiah Wright and that he is trying to distance himself. And of course, his followers will believe him because his followers will believe absolutely every single thing that he says. I take that back, not all of his followers will believe him because many of his followers are in lock step with the teachings of Rev. Jeremiah Wright. They believe in Obama because they believe in this philosophy. But for those who disagree with Wright, they will quickly argue that just because Obama has been listening to this man for 20 years, just because this man married Barack and Michelle Obama, just because he baptized their children, just because he was actually part of the Obama campaign, all of this doesn’t mean that his teachings have any affect on Barack Hussein Obama’s belief system.
Please note that only Republicans have a problem separating their religious beliefs with their political beliefs. John McCain is being linked to preachers who support his candidacy, though he never sat in on any church service. If a Republican goes to church, it is obviously because he wants to turn the US into a theocracy that burns homosexuals at the stake and allows husbands to beat their wives. Isn’t that right Governor Huckabee? Only a Democrat has the ability to separate himself. Only a Democrat can go each and every Sunday and listen to a man spew anti-American rants and racist hatred without it affecting his belief system.
For those with IQ issues, that last paragraph was sarcasm. Imagine for a moment that it became public knowledge that John McCain had spent the last 20 years attending the Westboro Baptist Church in Topeka, Kansas. This is the church that has been going to the funeral of dead Soldiers and Marines with their anti-gay signs and hatred. Would anyone in this country believe John McCain if he said that he went to the church, but he disagreed with their actions at all of these funerals?
I think not.

Fantastic. Very interesting to see these radical racist views, and offending to see these comments such as Rev. Wright saying we lived in the “USKKKA.”
[...] I’ve been advancing the proposition that this year’s election gives us the chance to talk about race in a way that we’ve been unable to in the past. In further promoting this proposition, check out this post on I’m A Pundit Too. [...]
Really for 20 years you didnt know or never heard Reverend Jeremiah Wright who provided distinctive anti american sermon. Who are you kidding. What is really your hidden agenda. If american public heard about this a couple of months ago you will be last on their list. Poison meets poison will produce poison.
